A close friend of mine has Rhabdomyolysis - dramatic skeletal muscle cell destruction.

It was the result of Metformin PLUS Lipitor.

Metformin looks to impact a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 which is needed to breakdown Lipitor.

Combine the above with pre-existing hypothyroidism -> high cholesterol (triggered by many things...BPA is one) and = major autoimmune problem.

He CAN recover (was in hosp. and flooded with IV bicarb to protect his kidneys) - CK was very very high because of the muscle cell destruction.

He is heading for a university hospital. According to Johns Hopkins...needs steroids to stop the autoimmune process.

He wasn't checked for TSH, free T4, free T3, rT3 (stress triggered) and most importantly thyroid antibodies prior to trying to lower his cholesterol via a powerful statin.

He grew up in the UP of Mich. where many persons (and their animals!) have thyroid problems. The well water...the mines...

Thank You for posting this info' and links.Statin drugs are very dangerous. They gave me seizure like issues, and made me very ill a few years ago.

And Metformin, is just as dangerous, as far as I am concerned, it caused me liver problems.

Tho'ts and prayers going up and out for your friend, please let us know how he does.
