I posted over the weekend how the doxy was causes a red rash and me just feeling absolutely horrible.
Today when I finally get to see my dr she tells me stop taking and start amoxicline.....
And some benedryl
So my question is how long till this drug leaves my body?
The dr in the ER gave me the wrong advice--keep taking it!

The ER Dr was stupid!

Might take a few days... do what you can to detox.

It may have not even been a doctor in the ER. It may have been a physician's assistant. You have to look out for that. Get their name, read their name badge, etc.

I understand that under Obamacare hospitals will not be able to afford doctors, so all they will have will be PAs basically. So, you have to look out for this.

Type into Google doxycycline half life. The half life is how long it takes to get rid of half the doxy. After 2 half-lifes, 3/4 of it is gone. After 3 half-lifes, 7/8 is gone.

I'm trying to understand 1/2 life meaning.
Does this mean I need to take the half life of how much doxy I have taken.
I been taking it for 2 weeks

Not sure of the answer, not being a doctor - I'm guessing try looking at the dosage of one unit of doxy - might be a pill, and see what they say is the half life for it, just to get more of an idea.

Experientially, though, you can take an antihistamine, as needed, during this time.

The half-life of doxy is 18-22 hours. So, once you stop the doxy (doesn't matter how long you have been taking it or the dosage) in 18 to 22 hours the amount of doxy in your blood is cut in half. (The amount of the medicine in your body is half gone after one half-life.)

In 36 to 44 hours (2 half-lifes), the amount in your blood is down to 1/4. In 54 to 66 hours (3 half-lifes), the amount in your blood is down to 1/8 of what it was.

In medicine, it is generally said that the drug is gone after 5 half-lifes. So, the doxy will be totally gone in about 100 hours.

I don't know how long it will take for the allergic reaction to go away. But, this is how long it will take for the doxy to be totally eliminated from your body.

Ok. Not a doctor. Just sharing my experience. Should never mess with allergies. but...

Rashes were my most annoying symptom of undiagnosed Lyme and co. After the initial rash, I would get them every other month and they would last months. Extremely itchy. I was always given prednisone (remember I was not dx'd ) which would surpress it but not get rid of it. This happened for 25 years.

Anyways fast forward to treating Lyme. I would get theses rashes when I herxed. But they only lasted a few days as opposed to spreading. It's been 3 years since I've had a rash.

I believe for me anyway, the rash was Lyme and not an allergic reaction.

For me however even before being dx'd doxy always got rid of these rashes. Just proves we're all different.
