Ive been diagnosed with chronic constipation a few times and every time told to increase my fiber and fluid intake.

The more fiber I eat the worse I am.

The strange thing is when I pass a fibrous stool I get really sick for a day or two.

No doctors can make sense of this but I have noticed it for a couple of years now.

The less fiber the better I am.

Whole grain, seeds, nuts, avocados all do me in after a BM.

Can anyone help me out here and make any sense of this?

thank you

Getting enough fat in your diet?

Extra Virgin Olive oil, Coconut oil, cod liver oil, etc. Nut oils, too.

Yes, a lot of olive oil, almond butter, fish oil

What is strange is fibrous bowel movements trigger neuro stuff for me.

I get numb and tingly, woozy, weak and fatigued.

It doesn't happen when my movements aren't fibrous.

Be nice to make some sense out of this.

Going low fiber for several days with magnesium and water

Keep trying.

Fiber is broken down by gut flora. We humans cannot digest fiber by ourselves.

So perhaps you are just feeding pathogenic flora that converts the food in to toxins?
Think bacteria or fungi (candida).

Probiotics, getting enough and the right kinds?

Digestive enzymes from your foods (a wide range of colors helps) &/or key supplements like WOBENZYME.

I think you are right s13

I take digestive enzymes but I can't take probiotics, herx after a few days of them.

Ive tried probiotic enamas but never noticed anything but also never herded this route. This is what I have resorted to fecal transplants.

Lets see what several days of low fiber brings.

Thanks you,I appreciate your input.

I have heard of that happening. Some of us just can't handle the extra fiber.

You may have SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). If you do, you'll likely have problems with fiber. I do, too (have SIBO and problems).

Check out http://www.siboinfo.com/diet.html and www.scdlifestyle.com

You may want to try the Specific Carbohydrate Diete for a while.

Also, look into FODMAPs.

Try Heather's Tummy Tamers Peppermint capsules (not affialited, but they're helping me!).

http://www.helpforibs.com/shop/suplmts/pmintcaps.asp

Also consider taking Neem.

"Six signs you might have SIBO

1) You notice that fiber worsens your constipation ...."

I appreciate all your replies. If it takes me a while to respond, it is either because I'm too sick or because I am unable to log in. From European servers, Lymenet is very frequently inaccessible for days at a time ...

thank you nula

I have been checked for sibo and it has come back negative.

I don't know if the tests are reliable.

I did try fodmaps for a while and it did help some.

I will look into neem and the info you have given me.

thank you kindly

You're welcome, Joe :-)

The SIBO tests aren't very reliable. I would really try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for a while.

This book helped me enormously:

http://scdlifestylebook.com

I didn't want to spend yet more money on stuff that didn't work, but the diet suggested in this book stopped my abdominal pain in only three days.

Still have SIBO, still have problems, but this diet was a godsend for me ... I have to be careful but can eat normally again.

Im struggling with bad GI flora and also have trouble with fiber. Any fiber i add will increase symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, mood problems.

Im doing the GAPS diet, which is an expanded version of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD). Instead of focusing on SIBO only, it also tries to address other pathogens in the gut.
Its extremely helpful in my case, but i still have a long road to go.

Wonderful, this has been helpful and hopefully to others too.

Its been three years of trying all kinds of plans.

This is tough but right now Im going to try a low fiber, limited carb, low saturated fat diet for a while.

I started yesterday and actually feel a little better today, coincidence ,lets hope not.

My GI doctor was the one who told me about fodmaps,I couldn't believe the list of foods.I was living off all the bad ones.

The problem is I know I have yeast too so it makes the diet a little more challenging.

My doc also told me of an couple week course of atbx for sibo, have you guys taken atbx for sibo?

Thanks again

Shoeless joe, my functional medicine doctor had me do a 3 day stool test which broke down everything going on in my gut. It's detailed enough to show how your gall bladder, pancreas, etc. are working.

For me, my gall bladder was sluggish and giving it support made me more regular. Also, I had a terrible imbalance in my gut bacteria (even c diff). It took about 3 months of the various things my doc had me do before I could tolerate probiotics.

You also might take a look at some of the Tesla wand threads. I'm getting more help from that than anything I've taken for my gut. And it's cheaper than 1 jar of anything my doc wants me to take.

If you are going to take abx (rifaximin) for SIBO, then make very sure you actually have SIBO, and not a fungal infection.
Killing whats left of the bacteria might worsen the fungal infection.
