Hello -

I am already being treated for Lyme, and I was stung by a wasp this weekend (about 2 days ago). Immediately, the area swelled a little bit, and hurt/itched but not too badly.

I didn't think anything of it until ~24 hours later, when I looked at the bite area, and I had developed a round red patch ~4-5cm across.

At the 48 hour mark, I now have two concentric rings, the inner area is a red/raised/swollen area, and there is a fainter pink ring around that (about 10-12cm across).

Does anyone know anything about whether a wasp sting could cause a Lyme-like rash or set off a rash reaction related to Lyme? Or is this just an allergic reaction?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Since wasps do not bite and they can only sting once, it would seem to me that they could not pass disease from one animal to another (including man).

They could have some dirt or debris on their stinger and maybe some kind of microbial disease, I suppose.

As these circle rashes sound like a bulls eye rash, it could be that the chemical reaction of the sting itself - and the shock - can push the body's immune system to react more stronger to whatever else is going on and, for you, now, that would be lyme.

Seems to make sense to me, anyway and that's pretty much what you seem to be thinking so I'll go with that.

The EM (bulls eye rash) with lyme is not limited to right around the time of the tick bite. The rash can appear just about anytime once one has been infected.

You could research a bit to see if stinging insects can carry infections from whatever debris might be on them, but the bulls eye is rather classic for lyme.

STINGKILL is a very nice topical to stop the stinging sensation.

Google: "wasp sting" infection, rash

one of the search results describes a normal reaction, etc.
