they called and moved appt to 10 this morning...explained symptoms. said I wanted bloodwork for temporal arteritis. he said you don't have it and symptoms jus don't match. but they took blood and said results should be in tomorrow.
he said it's more like tmj but not quite. i've had this for five weeks. he said he's stumped so i'm going to a neuro who specializes in headache disorders.
here's what I'm concerned about. he wants to put me on prednisone 40 mg twice a day for 10 days. he said he has only seen 1 case of temporal arteritis in over 25 years and that was a 77 year old man.
also on fiorinal and something for nausea.
really worried about the steroid but I can't go on this way.

Yes, I was put on prednisone by my ENT. It works for the pain but you are so jacked up that you can't sleep and I could only eat a few mouthfuls of food. You can't relax.
The neurologist took me off the prednisone and put me on a time release Topamax. There is also Neurontin. Both overwhelmed me.
So, jump on finding a dentist who treats temporal tendonitis. You won't be happy until you do.
Since you are in Ohio, you should call the dentist who is in my link right away and see when he can see you.
Chances are, the neurologist is also going to be stumped. The doctor today said it was "like TMJ" so I'm telling you, you need to look into temporal tendonitis.
Mention temporal tendonitis to the neurologist and print out that page and show it to him. I did that with the second nero I went to see and he advised me to definitely check that out.
That is how I got out of my horrendous pain. I had it for at least 4 months.

- Steroids are not the only option to reduce inflammation (and prednisone can be devastating for someone with untreated / undertreated / ongoing chronic lyme).
A good naturopathic doctor will know of several options.
Get information on what is going on but you can find other ways to then approach it. -

I'm in fort worth. don't go to ohio until september 9th.
I'm not sure I'm going I'm going to take the steroid as the bloodwork is not due until tomorrow. if the results are negative I sure as heck ain't taking it.
I asked him about a dentist and he said let's go neuro first.
I'm going to call my regular dentist tomorrow and ask about the temporal tendonitis.
I put my fingers in mouth and it hurt up against jaw bone.
got any tips until I can get into doctor?

I would NOT take 40 mg of prednisone twice per day. The most I would take is 40 mg once per day.
Then, taper down to 30, 20, 10.
If you react like me, you will be rid of your terrible head pain, but you will have the horrible side effects of prednisone in its place.
If you still have lyme, the prednisone is a bad idea.
You need to get on the internet and look up TMJ dentists in your area and call them tomorrow and see who treats temporal tendonitis. The wait to get in can be long.
Call his office tomorrow and see if he knows anyone in your area.
These docs use serapin which is NOT a steroid. It is a long-lasting pain killer. You get relief with these injections.
My regular dentist did NOT know dentists that treated TMJ or temporal tendonitis. Temporal tendonitis is common but very few dentists know anything about it. So, people suffer.
