Hi. I'm on a lot of Lyme and babesiosis meds along with other meds. I drink at least 72 oz of water a day, but my urine is far from clear and I'm always thirsty.

Could drinking too much water cause excessive thirst? I can't find a lot of info online about the possibility of too much water causing excessive thirst.

Is it thirst or is it dry mouth?

When I had lyme, I had such a dry mouth that I carried a water bottle everywhere I went. And, at night, laying in bed, I felt like I was dying of thirst because my mouth was so dry.

I had to go to bed with a sugar-free hard candy in my mouth so that I could ignore the dry mouth. I had to doctor for the dry mouth.

It went away when I got rid of my diseases.

You shouldn't drink more than 1/2 your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 100 lbs, you can drink 50 ounces. Just a guideline.

I don't think that drinking more water causes more thirst. Babesia will make the urine dark.

Thank you both. Okay. That makes me feel better. I didn't know Babs could make your urine dark.

I think it could be dry mouth. I will have to pay more attention to it. I have a voracious appetite though. I dunno what is causing it. Any ideas?

Have you looked into a hormone imbalance? There is one associated with Lyme that can cause this. I'm sorry I don't remember what it is - can someone else name it?

Another factor could be electrolyte imbalance.

I have this symptom too and keep thinking I should look into it more. What helps me is to not drink straight water - drink water with lemon, or water with lemon and mint, or sparkling water (with minerals) or orange juice.

Drinking any water will not always quench thirsty cells.

There are different 'waters' with different surface tensions...

Some people even say drinking distilled water will hydrate your cells better.

I'm copy pasting some info on Megahydrate. I'm not selling it, but I just copy paste it so that you can have an idea about hydration.

---
MegaHydrate™ is a cutting edge dietary supplement boasting one of the highest antioxidant potentials on the planet.

It was created by physicist and medical doctor Patrick Flanagan as a way to boost cellular hydration ..

...by reducing the surface tension of water within the body, essentially making the water in and between our cells hydrated.

The idea is that with optimal hydration and surface tension of this fluid we are able to more efficiently eliminate toxins and metabolic by-products on the most basic level.

Add to this a potential increase in the delivery of important nutrients and you have a recipe for healthier cells and a healthier body.

...
MegaHydrate™ was developed to offer the same benefits as the waters found in high elevation regions of the world.

In some elevated areas of places such as Pakistan, Ecuador and Germany, people seem to live longer and with a better quality of life well into 100 years of age.

This is because of the water structure of the frozen glacier water of these regions of the world.

MegaHydrate™ mimics these waters in both its structure and health effects.

This form of water does not have to work to be absorbed by our cells, but enters into them easily, allowing quicker hydration and nutrient uptake.

Good things move into our cells easier, and toxicants also move out easier.

...
Many people find the desire to drink water diminishes as they get older.

Combine a reduced water intake with drinking tea, coffee, soda, energy drinks and other beverages that lead to reduction in overall hydration and you have a situation where you are likely to notice the real effects too little water in your body.
