my son, a teen, has always had issues with impetigo.
he has been free of it for a couple years now, but just last month got it again and hasn't gone away.
I am trying not to worry about it, but I vaguely remember something about impetigo relating to lyme or some tick thing or maybe it was just an auto immune issue because of it???
I can't seem to find info on line that fits.
anyone know of anything?
also his new dr rx azithromax for it. I heard bactrim is better, but the dr said bactrim can give people a rash? I never has a rash on it.

oh, and he was tx for RMSF a yr or so ago. no lyme was found or tx for , or any other tick disease

Regarding Bactrim, the doctor is worried about "Stevens-Johnson" syndrome which can be lethal.

so read azithromax warning and the steven johnson rash was listed on there too!
so update here....
son on the abx for 4 weeks. impetigo didn't go away.
then cleared up on bacitracin. now, after about 2 weeks the impetigo is back.
took him to another dr for 2nd opinion 2 weeks ago. he said coudl be strep but didn't think so since the abx helped the first time, so he said put him back on abx (same one) and let it keep working since it worked already.
well.... not sure this sits right with me. shouldn't we be trying to find WHAT is causing it??????? he always has a cold too. I feel so bad for him.. ugh
what about a dermatologist?

Yes, you need to go to a dermatologist. Find out the true cause of the rash. If it is an infection, then they will know the best way to eradicate that specific strain.
It is not good to treat something blindly, not knowing what is going on. Especially when your first two treatments of choice didn't work. Alarm bells are going off in your head for a reason.
This is not something that an ER or urgent care will be able to help you with. You need to see a specialist (the dermatologist) for further testing and evaluation. Just as your gut is telling you.

Also, take pics of the rash just in case it changes or fades by the time you see the dermatologist. Try to get them as clear as possible, up close and overall appearance. This will help the doc too.
Phones are helpful for this because you keep your phone with you all the time.
