I know I have been writing a lot here lately but I am scared. I feel like my infection is getting worse and winning. The last 3 days I have had severe calf pain in both legs.

I have tried baths and topical magnesium, I have eaten bananas for potassium. Nothing works. I'm laying in bed every day and wake up worried I won't be able to walk. This is no life [Frown]

Hey takethat89, You can never ask to many questions....

Here's a few things that come to mind>

stretch & massage

Apply ice - Heat pads are also good

light exercise

Physical Therapy!

If it's inflammation - rest the muscles

Nonsteroidal - anti-inflammatory medications

If it dosn't get better you might want to talk to your doc to make sure you don't have any blood clots.

Steve

Keep taking the magnesium. Can you do epsom salt baths?

What meds are you on?

I'll move this to medical for more help.

It could be the Lyme and it could be getting worse.

But.

Before you jump to that conclusion, consider that when the adrenals start to go haywire, all bets are off with the essential salts. There are people who are doing other protocols for other problems with the adrenals who are taking 3 grams of potassium a DAY ( don't take that much, it's dangerous).

But if you've just eaten one banana, that really might not be anywhere near enough to resolve hypokalemia. I think the RDA for potassium is something like 2 grams a day ( please double check this) and one potassium PILL that you get from the drugstore is 100 mg.

It's nowhere near enough. Try more potassium. Potassium is the OTHER salt that can cause neuromuscular issues; taking magnesium won't help.

That pain is so awful! Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with it. I have had it before and years ago didn't know how to fix it. Like you I tried heat, massages, magnesium, potassium, salts, etc. etc. Nothing worked. Please keep in mind....

Everyone LOVES to say take more magnesium as if it is a cure all. Fact is some people just can't take magnesium, and it can make the pain you are describing much worse, as it did for me and others.

If you are taking magnesium and are not any better, others, including myself, take calcium instead. NOT a mag/cal mix, just calcium. I use coral calcium when I can get it, but any calcium should help IF that is the problem.

It took me about a week after getting off the magnesium and just trying calcium to stop having that pain. Maybe more like 5 days.

If I lay back on taking the calcium the pain starts returning, I take it again, and the pain goes away.

No promises it will work for you, but since nothing else does maybe try it.

BTW- No answers as to why that happens to some people- calcium better than magnesium- but now that we know about MTHFR I believe that may have something to do with it.

Feel better soon!!!!

Forgot something. It MIGHT help to use a mixture of oil- like olive oil, jojoba or other neutral oil, mixed with lavender oil. The lavender oil helps reduce pain. I can use it straight, but you may want to try diluting it just a bit if your skin is sensitive? It won't be as effective, but might help some.

The best oil I've found is one you can get from AMAZON and other sites, called Tei-Fu Oil (by Nature's Sunshine). It is a tiny tiny bottle, but lasts a LONG time. I was at first insulted to pay about $10 for such a small amount, but it was well worth every cent.

Over the years I've purchased several bottles. It was suggested originally for a headache, and it did work well so I experimented after that.

In tests I've done (on me), I found the Tei-Fu oil helps for about 6-8 hours, and the lavender about 4-6 hours. Both work fairly well for muscle pain, and especially well for nerve pain, especially when nothing else seems to work.

I found it is less effective for arthritic pain, but may help some. And the Tei-Fu oil is better than lavender oil over all.

Since a HUGE percentage of our population is magnesium deficient and because Lyme as well as medications DEPLETE magnesium, that is the first suggestion I throw out there.

Have you recently started taking any new antibiotics, takethat? The article below describes calf pain in both legs as a dangerous side effect of Cipro. Other antibiotics can also cause this.

I would definitely let your doctor know and I would stop taking any ABX while experiencing that type of pain you are describing.

That's why I asked what meds she was on. I was wondering the same thing.

Statins can also cause severe pain.

My mistake. I didn't see the post mentioning meds. I am glad it is not tendon damage from ABX.
