Can Malarone be taken without a macrolide antibiotic (I.e. azithromycin/biaxin)
Mepron is always taken with Zith because Babesia develops resistance to it. But since the Malarone also includes the Proguanil, can it be taken solo (since it has two vectors to fight strains resistant to one or the other)?
I thought that was the whole point of Malarone over Mepron...but I don't know for sure.
For example, if a patient was taking zith and malarone together, but developed bad candidiasis from the Zith...but wanted to keep taking the Malarone, maybe along with a Coartem pulse.
Anyone know for sure?
