not sure it has anytihng to do with lyme or cos. probably not?

but my son is losing his hair! he is 17. I cut his hair and the last time I did I noticed nothing. just now, tonight, I was in shock. it is very thin on the top. he has long hair and always been his crowning glory. thisis making me feel terribl eof r him and I am sure he is freakingout. he is not open to talking much about it but says it has been happing for a "while"- whatever that means

maybe it's stress? or hormones? or genes!!!!! God forbid- because that would mean it's real and nothing can be done. gulp

what do i do?? his diet is terrible and he is a teen l, like I said , so what can I do about that??

I am really concerend

I have hair loss since lyme infection - over the past couple years- but mine is all over.

my dad still has a lot of hair and he is 82, but I will ask when his started. I was just reading about hthis and it says to go to a dermatologist. his diet may be a cuprit or a zinc issue, etc.... he lives on junk.

he also wears a hat a lot and uses the blow dryer.

but how do I talk to him about this. I am sure it is really upsetting to him. and he is a typical "I hate my parents" teen now so this wont be easy.

it could also be stress. Lord knows our family is full of stressors. sigh

Is he itching, Lisa? Wearing the hat a lot could exacerbate any possible issue with lice, scabies or demodex mites. Demodex mites are in most of us, but can explode in population and cause problems in those with poorly functionng immune systems (like Lyme patients!). You can't see the Demodex, so the problem can be hard to identify.

Would he take exception to having a power-packed smoothie, for example at breakfast and a veggie juice later on?

I agree that he should see a specialist dermatologist/trichologist if possible to try to sort out the reason.

I really feel for you both, as I catch myself checking out my son's hair when we see him and he is 26 now! You must have a real pang of sadness and sympathy for him.

ukcarry, ew.... I will ask abou tthe itching. he is at work now. I looked up some last night and told him today that he needs to stop blowdrying intensly on that area, stop putting all the pressure on it with brushing , hat, band wearing as his daily ritual is to straighten that part becasue it is curly.

he told me he rubs it there too and I think he may be rubbing it to see if it comes out when he rubs because that is when he said he notices it comoing out!

I will do the smoothy- that is a great idea- if I can remember! this is how his diet got so bad in the first place. when i was at my sickest was when he was at such huge diet forming age and we just bought any food so family could eat since i could not cook. he ended up addicted to ramen andpotato chips, sorry to say. I have been working on this since I feel better this year, but I still find it hard to plan, purchse , and cook good nutritious foods.

it just takes so much brain power. lyme really kicked my brain good. it's getig better but still daily things are very difficult.

he also has a rash (probably impetigo)around his nose for about a year, on and off abx for it, so we are making apt with dermatologist for that adn will also now mention the hair. such a long wait for one though.

I do have sympathy. I am heartbroken for him. I am sure he is devistated even though he is at a clam up stage and wont tell me much. I sure hope it's nothing serious. [Frown]
