I recently read a post about using Andrographis as a sleep aid. The taste of Andrographis is so strong that I haven't used it very often but would like to try it for sleep. If you wanted to use it as a sleep aid, would you use the capsule form or the tincture?

- tulips,
the tablet works just fine for me, taking it around 6 pm and then another around 10, just before bed.
I would start, though, with just one. this can have a strong herx effect at first - and will increase urine output. Be sure to read through the links set for more detail.
Since this works just fine in tablet, I'd not add the alcohol that's in a tincture (save tinctures only for those that do not work well in dry form).
If you happen to have tincture, that would be fine and faster acting. Just take with a cup of water to dissipate the alcohol. Not boiling water, though (as some aerial parts of the plants are used as boiling water can kill the goodness), - use warm or room temp.
SKULLCAP is one that ONLY works as tincture (not as powder), for instance. And it's great for sleep, too.
For relaxation, be sure to the get kind described here (as Buhner's books talk about an entirely different kind that is not sedative in nature and does work in powder / capsule).
Herb Pharm has an excellent non-alcohol skullcap tincture. You will find this spelled with either a "k" or "c" just make sure the second name is the one you want. -

Andrographis for sleep???? Wow, I have never heard that before. I know that it is a "Buhner" herb used for protozoan and spirochetal infections, but as a sleep aid?....that's interesting.

- It's been exceptionally wonderful for my sleep. But that's not why I started it or continue it. It just makes it very nice bonus.
However, be aware that it can increase urine output so have a clear path to the bathroom with your sturdy footwear by the bed, ready to scurry. While an inconvenience at first, this actually helps reduce inflammation & pain.
When I read in a book / article that is "sedative in nature" then it really made a log of sense. I was glad to see that confirmation of what my body already told me. I wish I could remember where I read it but, likely, in one of the links in the thread set.
You can find many references to that property with a search at Google for:
andrographis, sedative
I had to stop taking it during the day as it made me too tired. So I take Berberine during the day and andrographis in evening and then at night.
That's the entirely of my treatment plan, as budget allows. But I find the properties of these to cover a lot of bases, even if not as many as I'd like / need.
Andrographis is sedative in nature. Such as garlic / allicin being stimulating in its nature. Neither "personality" trait is the main reason for its use, however, it's just something to consider with use / timing.
Many herbs (and some foods) are one or the other in that way, too, as their properties are many. -

- In your other post on this topic, someone mentioned valerian. That works great for some, however, even a small dose late evening would leave me feeling hung over the whole next day.
Some people just seem to have that reaction while others do not. But if you are one who does, there are many other good options. -

- when I first saw your question in the other thread, I just had no energy. They, yesterday, could not log on.
Hope you find what you need. Unfortunately for those who like to be connected, the light issue of computers, TVs, electronic gadgets and even the light on some clocks -- that can clobber sleep so terribly. It's hard to turn down the lights, turn off gadgets and maybe just read or listen to soothing music for the hour before bed.
If we live with others, this could be a good time to connect, tell campfire stories, really learn about each other and explore dreams before settling in.
I'll be that book posted in the other thread gets into that as Andriana Huffington has written so much about what modern tech does to our brains and how to take back our biological access to sleep. -

My functional medicine doctor has me on this to settle down my adrenal glands at night because testing showed they were staying high. It has andrographis in it. http://catalog.designsforhealth.com/CatecholaCalm-90_2
