It's a horrible new symptom. I've had it for 7 days and it's been getting worse.
It started with a foul, bitter taste in my mouth. Now my tongue is burning, lips are burning, my mouth is burning, but mostly it's a brutal bitter taste. My lips feel dry (from the inside), even though I have lots of saliva in my mouth.
The symptoms are better in the mornings, and get worse throughout the day.
The top of my tongue feels rougher, when I touch it with the tip of my tongue.
Actually, it feels a lot less like actual tongue burning, but more like I've burnt my tongue. Similar to what happens when you eat something spicy or burn your tongue with a hot drink.
And it's not only my tongue (though that is the main issue), it's also in the rest of my mouth and a couple of days ago, my lips were burning.
The bitter taste is brutal.
I'm not on pharmaceuticals. I'm on Buhner herbs only. I have been for a long time. I've never had any problems with them, and the only new thing I started a couple of months ago was Alchornea, which has helped with my Babesia symptoms.
As soon as the mouth issue started, I stopped Japanese Knotweed (have only been on 4 drops a day) as I know that it can cause taste issues. But I've been on it for almost a year, and it has never caused any problems.
I always leave the tinctures in my mouth for a while, and usually, the tongue goes a bit numb, but that goes away after 30 seconds.
I can't talk to my LLMD as he doesn't know that I've been self-medicating with Buhner (long story).
I'm desperate as I need to take the Buher tinctures. They've helped me much more than anything my (famous) LLMD has given me so far ...
My main symptoms are neurological. Skin burning is one of my worst. So maybe the tongue issue is neurological, similar to the skin burning, or tincture-related or God knows what!
I've also had a MASSIVE amount of stress in the past month. MASSIVE.
Please, does anyone know these symptoms ....????

Maybe it's not neurological. Maybe you just turned allergic to something you're eating. Try stopping fruits, anything with additives and salicylates.

Your description reminds me of geographic tongue. Any possibility of yeast?

Yes, you need some carnitine. Also, I probably wouldn't hold the herbs all over the mouth for so long. Just under the tongue for a few seconds is all I do and they work. I imagine 30 seconds would soak in good too. You can also switch to pill form on the herbs (won't cause tongue/mouth issues).

Nula, I'm sure you know this but you need some meditation or yoga or anything to deal with the stress (causes inflammation and makes things worse).

This may be your problem.
But if its really bothering you then you may want to go to a regular doctor about the issue.

The mouth tongue thing may be from the alcohol base of the tincture. My wife never could tolerate anything like that even not holding it in her mouth.
It sounds very similar. Not the skin part, but I just stopped using that method. Once it all cleared up she could then tolerate it for a while again but only for about a month or so at a time.

- Alcohol tinctures certainly can irritate the mouth, I've found. And as you are holding it in your mouth, that's the number one culprit.
I would stop all alcohol tinctures for a while. Maybe when mouth is fully healed, try again but this time, in LOTS of water and chug fast and then a quick good water rinse.
I do wonder though, since you say they help so much if the drops might be mixed with some food so that the mouth does not get the full hit?
Trying to let some of the alcohol evaporate out in warm (not hot water as hot water can totally destroy the benefit of many herbs grown above ground -- hot water is okay for root tinctures, though, if ONLY roots / rhizome are in the product).
There are many herbs, though, that can work just as well in capsule form.
Could be part of a specific cranial nerve pathway (VIII, I think). I have notes on that somewhere as this is a topic too close to me - and I've spent many a dreary night seeking out answers.
Now that your mouth is "injured" a multi-pronged approach is likely going to be helpful for healing.
*** Sodium Laurel Sulfate - check your toothpaste. Even from "natural sources" it can still irritate.
Toothpaste, aside from SLS and other chemicals, though, even "natural" ones, if they have mint, clove or anything "hot" in nature can be hard for some with tender mouth.
Castor oil is the only thing I've found that my mouth can tolerate as toothpaste. Not even baking soda, as that can really burn and also be too much like sandpaper, really.
Coconut oil also burns my mouth so was glad to find that castor oil did not. Once in a while I can add a little baking soda to my brush. Key: very little on the brush to see how it might work.
Many other considerations. And many good things to help. -

- Nula,
Be sure not to use toothpaste tonight. Coconut oil might be okay if you have that, or castor oil. Even just water will work okay for brushing for a few days - just nothing that might be caustic in any way. Be sure to still floss, of course.
No mouthwash, either. Some of that can be very irritating. If you have some xylitol or stevia, a tiny bit in water a gargle might work.

Not sure this would help you, but I like oil pulling - it's simple, and makes my mouth feel good afterwards -
we swish around an oil like sesame oil or coconut oil in the mouth for about 15 minutes, then spit out. It's done as a detox protocol in many cultures in the world.
Just wondering whether this would help your mouth feel any better. Just a shot in the dark...
