Who here has mycoplasma, and what did you do about it?
With this bacteria, is there any way to know whether it was acquired from a tick, or from regular day-to-day exposure (a cough, person-to-person contact, etc)?
I guess I'm also confused how "walking pneumonia" and then the tick-borne version are different?
Mycoplasma is not "political," and cases of walking pneumonia often resolve with a short course of antibiotics.
So why does someone need three years of antibiotics for mycoplasma, if just 10 days usually works? Is it the difference between residence of the bacteria in the extracellular space of the lungs/throat versus disseminated intracellular infection?

Wikipedia has a pretty good discussion of why it is so tough to get rid of this particular infection:

- In addition to the excellent link TF posts, Prof. Garth Nicholson's research in Mycoplasma is to be commended. He is THE top expert researcher in this field. He is also very much lyme literate which, even (as opposed to a patient care clinician) in a laboratory / academic / scholarly researcher, really matters so they understand the various issues.
You can find some of his past presentations at ILADS conferences at their website, on DVD, etc. [ www.ilads.org ]

My lyme doc tested me for mycoplasma a few months ago and I am positive. Subsequently I looked at Buhner's mycoplasma protocol. The worst thing about it was that you need to eat liver every day for a year.
When I discussed this with the doc, I found that she treats vets with very serious mycoplasma and that I am not in that category. Apparently their symptoms are a lot more severe but I didn't inquire further.
Anyone know a way around the liver thing?

War veterans. Many contracted mycoplasma from the Gulf war. See Garth Nicholson.

I used Rife frequency treatment to refuce mycoplasma pneumonia. It's tough to kill, but I had it in my lungs and intestinal tract for sure and likely in other parts of the body as well.
It could have been another strain as I am going by improvements in symptoms and reactions right after treatment. I also lowered it with a Z Pac but it came back in a few weeks after that.
Some people have better immune systems to fight it off. Mine was likely good enough to hold it in check until I got older.
