I just got this in the mail yesterday because Keebler said it helped collagen. I'm all for collagen, so I took one tablet yesterday with the rest of my herbal mountain.

I got the "herx" feeling in about an hour -- to me this is like being on some kind of narcotic, very tired, like a quaalude or something. I've never had a quaalude but I figure it's like that. Checked all the way out.

Is that possible?

What you describe is of concern and sorry that you are feeling worse since lately you've posted of feeling just horrible all the way around. Some questions, first.

I've taken many brands and forms of Gotu Kola - on and off - spanning 25 years and never had a reaction to it. So, many questions. Consider ALL the variables.

It's not likely a herx yet if you have some kind of reaction, start with the source - and be sure it's not counterfeit. As to it not likely a herxheimer reaction, while no doubt how awful one might feel, a herx is specific to agents that target spirochetes. This does not.

Had you eaten in that that hour? Could your blood sugar have been low? Gotu Kola can lower blood sugar so that it to be considered if you were low on food.

If you are celiac &/or gluten-free, does this contain gluten?

As it's a tablet, what's in the coating if there is a shiny sheen to it? Corn? That can make me feel awful.

Had you gotten too hot? Heat will do that to many with lyme and with it being early in the season, a consideration.

Can you post a link to the exact brand and the ingredient list - I need to see where they get this and if other things are included.

The manufacturer's contact information, too.

And how many mg. in that capsule you took? OTHER ingredients?

And the heat of shipment, how this was warehoused before shipping, etc.

It's best to only start something new all by itself, though, never with other herbs, etc. Only by taking it alone can a real determination tell us how we do with it.

Were you able to check on any possible interactions? In the information sets I post there is usually a link to get you started on that.

But, lets start with the brand and the vendor you used if a third party. For instance, it may have been from Amazon but if it said "sold by and ships by: ______ ) that matters.

It was this one, Keebler --

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003PG6OMO/ref=sr_ph_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463856043&sr=1&keywords=gotu+kola

I wasn't thinking of it til later but I did Google "Gotu Kola Lyme" and found this page -- though who knows where this info came from:

2. cutting to the chase (hands too numb for the cordialities)

I would never trust a site that calls itself Health WyZe & Fidelity Minsitry, first of all. If they can't spell "wise" correctly, how can I trust that they are such?

Second, he gives zero citations for his claims.

He's very wrong about many things he says in that article but, sticking to the issue at hand:

I've studied Gotu Kola at length and have never read of his claims in this article about it being toxic to syph."

Yes, some articles report it having been helpful (in historical accounts) but not because it's toxic to any spirochete. It's more helpful as support.

Not to say there is not more to learn but he needs to supply solid citation for each thing he states as "fact". Real authors do.

The author has no training in this area.

1. Link. Thanks.

At first glance, it appears good, gluten free, limited other ingredients. But I'm not familiar with the organization that certifies it being organic nor Vitamin Discount Center, the middle man before Amazon got it.

I don't have time / energy to sort that all out now (or ever, probably) but it would be important to explore that.

For now, just don't take it again until you can find out more about who they really are. It's just not possible to tell by a label of a brand I think I've heard of but am not sure.

It could still be a counterfeit. That has to be considered. I think the next step is to contact the manufacturer directly.

Hope you feel better today.

GOOD SOURCES of information - start with those who have top education / training.

Excellent information about Gotu Kola from the top two books (and books will always tell us more than any website -- interlibrary loan is a great help there, too):

http://oneearthherbs.squarespace.com/one-earth-herbal-sourcebook/

Alan Tillotson, D.Ay. - The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook

https://doctormurray.com/

Michael T. Murray, ND - The Healing Power of Herbs

http://www.matthewwoodherbs.com/Mattwood.html

Matthew Wood - The Book of Herbal Wisdom

He is a member of the American Herbalists Guild (registered herbalist) and has earned his Masters of Science degree from the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine (accredited by the University of Wales).

Also consider what Stephen Buhner (master herbalist) might have to say about it. Of all on this page, his work is most specific to lyme / TBD.

Townsend Letter - a good publication / website

and

www.itmonline.org

ITM - Institute for Traditional Medicine -- they have a great search engine and hundreds of excellent articles by one of the world's most respected herbalists.

Lol, that's exactly the criticism I expected you to articulate about that site.

I haven't added anything new to my pill mountain except that but if you think it's not a herx thing I could have just been herxing from my regular meds/herbs etc.

Either way herxing doesn't stop me from taking things at this stage of the game since I'm herxing pretty often anyway.

Thanks for your input [Smile]

Many of this man's claims have been substantiated in the well researched and footnoted book, Lab 257.

Also the US government has had a verified and PROVEN history of illegal experimentation on the population with spirochetes--- see Tuskeegee, and Guatemala. The US has never apologized to the victims of Tuskeegee, although Hillary did apologize to Guatemala.

No offense Keebler, but we must all try to break out of our childlike dependence, and blind trust in the government.

Mounting evidence shows that there has been malfeasance.... on many levels --- regarding Lyme disease. Its not something to obsess over-- but its also important not to deny the possibility that Papa government has hurt us all-- or they will continue to do so with impunity.

There is nothing wrong with having an alternative view, based on research.

Denial about the possibility of a coverup doesn't help anyone.

Also, Gotu Kola apparently HAS been used to treat syphilis, according the the University of Maryland-- so it seems this man's facts are not entirely off base:

People herx on lots of things though, depending on their body chemistry. I "herxed" on vitamin c. I wasn't killing spirochetes, but something sure happened.

Honestly I don't care if there is or was a government conspiracy. I'm too sick to get upset. If I spent energy on that it would be energy taken away from figuring out how to get better.
