I thought I was feeling bad because of my infected teeth got the teeth pulled but still felt bad. My dr. Had me do Epstein-Barr test and it came back positive.
I had it when i was young and only remember feeling tired.
I got very sick very end of April feeling very tired and like i would die and only over the last few days have I started feeling reasonably better but just now getting the diagnosis.
My doctor said I could take Valtrex. Does anyone know anything about Epstein-Barr?does early treatment with Valtrex improve outcome like antibiotics with Lyme disease?
Tell me this isn't really hard to get over

My lyme dr. said almost everyone has/had Epstein Barr virus and he doesn't feel it proves or does much since there really isn't treatment for it.
I hope the Valtrex helps you, but I have heard antivirals don't do a whole lot. I sure don't want to put cold water on your hopes though! Maybe my Dr. doesn't know what he is talkin about!
Best of wishes!!

My doctor also said almost everyone has/had Epstein Barr. I've heard mixed reports about the efficacy of Valtrex for EB, but I hope it helps you.

I think everyone has EB (quite common). I would think a weakened immune system opens the door for any virus to flourish, so maybe your teeth did have something to do with it gaining some foothold.
I hope valtrex works. Any valtrex users out there? Hopefully someone will chime in.

The majority of lyme patients have also tested positive and been diagnosed with EBV. I have heard others say that a prior bout with EBV is a risk factor for developing chronic lyme, and I see a lot of truth in that.
I honestly think that you can beat this fairly easily and quickly. The lyme may be another story.
Personally, I would use a natural anti-viral. Olive leaf extract is a great one, and one I am seeing great success with. Although I earlier had mixed reviews about it since I reacted very strongly to it. I chalked that up to its anti-parasitical properties.
But, I am seeing very good results with family members that have had high viral loads. I, too, am finding it very helpful for viruses and am tolerating it much better now.
L-lysine is great for viruses, too.
I recommend trying L-lysine with Olive leaf extract. I think that combo will help immensely!

I know ebv is common and I would test positive for a past infection but a present or current infection is what I'm guessing they found or why would they report it?
Seeing dr. For exact results later this afternoon.
It seems to make sense. The sudden onset of being extremely tired one day extreme weakness the next and over a month of being sick.
I just want a reason and to get better. So tired of being incapacitated.
Would Valtrex cause a herx? Never taken it.

I would test again and see if the titers keep rising. Also - did your doctor order the EBV Early Antigen test? The EA used to be included with any EBV test. Now it's a separate test - and I guess doctors don't think to order it.
It's not the nuclear antigen but (also) the early antigen that needs to be tested. Research this - you'll see.

I guess I'm the only one with lyme who had dormant ebv become symptomatic. ..
I'll look at the labs.
Blue lyme, is rife useful for this?

"Frequent exposures to Mycoplasmas are common, resulting in a high prevalence of seropositivity, so the best way to confirm active infection is by PCR.
Chronic viral infections may be active in the chronic patient, due to their weakened immune response. PCR testing, and not serologies, should be used for diagnosis. Commonly seen viruses include HHV-6, CMV, and EBV." (p. 5)
"DNA VIRUSES (HHV-6, EBV, CMV)
· Persistent fatigue, made worse with exercise. · Sore throat, lymphadenopathy, and other viral-like complaints. · May see elevated liver enzymes and low WBC counts. · Autonomic dysfunction." (p. 27)
The first quote tells you what test to order to differentiate a past EBV infection from an active one--PCR.
The second quote tells you the symptoms of EBV in the lyme patient.
You said: "a present or current infection is what I'm guessing they found or why would they report it?"
The answer could be lack of knowledge. That is why, unfortunately, with lyme disease, the patient must become educated. This way, you can evaluate what tests the doctor did and the doctor's knowledge.
I strongly suggest you read and STUDY the Burrascano Guidelines to learn as much as you can about this disease and how it is properly treated.
You have to look up every medical word to be sure you understand what Burrascano is saying. For example: PCR, Serology, and seropositivity.
PCR testing looks for the DNA of the virus in your blood.
"Serologic" tests ("serologies") are blood tests that look for antibodies in your blood.
"Seropositivity" is having a positive serum reaction especially in a test for the presence of an antibody.

Natural antivirals is the best, in my opinion.
Dr. Rau from Switzerland says that chemical anti virals attack human cells too (as viruses are made from proteins that are similar to our proteins, if I understood it well).
He said his American lyme patients come after loads of anti virals, that is catastrophic, in his opinion.
Try natural remedies, made of plants. Less dangerous, in my opinion.
Another thing you could try are nosodes, homeopathic ones. That is the option of many doctors using natural approaches here in Germany, Switzerland.

Ebv nuclear antigen ab, igg 293 Ref range positive is ≥21.9
Does this give anymore insight?
I am doing elderberry lots of c getting ready to start lysine and better diet. Would do olive leaf or captured but don't think I can deal with heavy herxing.

tommyboy, you don't give us the name of the lab. That could be very important to know.
Also, AB means antibody test. So, all of the tests done on you were looking for EBV antibodies and NOT the virus itself. That is not the type of test that will tell you if you are currently infected per Burrascano. (You can have antibodies in your blood because of a prior infection.)
However, your antibody count seems high to me, but I don't know anything about it regarding someone who has had EBV in the past.
Look at this website that explains the tests you had done:
Your test results are on the last line of the chart and equal "may indicate reactivation of virus"
See this quote:
"Reactivation of the virus is rarely a health concern unless the person is significantly and persistently immune compromised, as may happen in those who have HIV/AIDS or organ transplant recipients."
So, you most likely have reactivation of EBV because lyme has significantly compromised your immune system, just like HIV does.
See this quote from Burrascano:
"definition of “Chronic Lyme Disease”. Based on my clinical data and the latest published information, I offer the following definition. To be said to have chronic LB, these three criteria must be present:
1. Illness present for at least one year (this is approximately when immune breakdown attains clinically significant levels)." (page 3)

My EBV (all titers, but especially the one for active infection) has always been off the charts -- literally, the active infection titer was too high to even measure. My current doc put me on Valtrex at my request (2 grams per day) and for the first time ever, my titers are coming down in a way that we can measure. I feel worlds better in terms of fatigue when I am on the Valtrex vs. not on it --- I'd taken it before with a prior LLMD, and it helped the, so I requested it again.

I too had EBV symtpoms coming and going to varying degrees when i was at my sickest with Lyme mess. My LLMD felt as stated above, that the virus becomes more active when the immune system is overwhelmed.
I was consumed doing Lyme med and supplements and didn't do anything to directly address the EBV symptoms and mine went away as i became more well in general. I still have periods of time where my lips tingle and are numb for days on end, but, the fatigue part (and cold sores etc) has resolved with general wellness.
