I am confused

some abx (Rifampin, Doxy) say to take them on an empty stomach for good absorption

but others (like Clarithromycin) can be taken with food

should they be taken with food to protect the stomach lining?

I think LymeToo posted about juice not being enough

LymeToo and others: what is your take on this?

how to take abx and how bad is it for your stomach to take them on an empty stomach?

I like to take them on an empty stomach and then wait one hour and take my probios with the food

is that a bad idea?

I started out taking them all on an empty stomach and gave up on that after a month. It was just too hard on my stomach.

It's one thing if you're going to be taking abx for ten days. It's another if you're going to be on them possibly for a year or more.

Take all antibiotics with food. Otherwise, you could really make yourself sick.

Take probiotics at LEAST 2 hours after the antibiotics. One hour is not enough. You are killing your probiotics with the antibiotics.

If you want a burnt esophagus, take without food. If you'd like to keep your esophagus and stomach lining, take WITH food.

Thank you all very much! much appreciated from Lyme treatment experienced folks

so, even Rifampin you take with food?

how much food? a full meal or just a few crackers?

would you need to take higher doses to make up for the lack of absorption?

I will ask my new LLMD, too, but I got to wait a few months for that

I would go by this for Rifampin:

http://www.lymebook.com/antibiotic-treatment-for-babesia-bartonella-ehrlichia-co-infections

For other meds, the amount of food varies. For doxy, a full meal and take the med in the middle of the meal.

For other meds, a snack might be good enough (like a little meat and cheese), but a meal is better. A few crackers is not enough. Plus, you should not be eating crackers or drinking juice. See the Burrascano anti-yeast diet.

I've taken levaquin, bactrim, amoxil, clindamycin, minocycline all without food, for a very long time. My doc said to for better absorption, and they do seem to absorb better that way to me. Can't remember how I did rifampin... But doxy, that's a different story. That one I have to take in the middle of a meal. It burns!

I usually dump meds or supplements into an empty stomach unless it's something that needs food to absorb better like fat soluble vitamins.

Doxy was also my one exception, I only took it without food twice and boy did I pay for it. Monodox was gentle enough on me that I could take it without food.

I also feel like the meds absorb better on an empty stomach or taken shortly before eating.

The "regular" instructions that say to take them on an empty stomach don't apply to Lyme treatment. Your stomach won't survive long if you don't take abx WITH FOOD.

Be sure to avoid eating dairy too close to doxy though.
