hi

My some who is almost 5 was down with Coxsackie virus past couple of days.

Now he has multiple mouth ulcers which is an after-effect of the infection.

It is so painful that he is crying most of the day and refuses to eat.

Do any herbal people here recommend any herbs that may work to neutralize this virus? I'm hoping that I can dilute in water and have him rinse/gargle.

Thanks for any inputs.

Hi,

Here are some good options:

Remedies work quicker than herbs.

Good luck!

Seagate Olive Leaf Extract - Liquid extract -- it's free of alcohol - is very soothing and helpful to my mouth ulcers.

A very specific brand of Olive Leaf extract (or a brand that uses the same methods of growing, harvesting, processing) - Seagate. Detail:

Also Seabuckthorn oil - found at Mountain Rose Herbs best for over night as it's thicker.

For mouth ulcers I've always taken lysine.

Is he getting enough vitamin C? Of course, citrus fruit would burn but a capsule would not. Mouth sores are a sign of vitamin C deficiency (scurvy), among other things.

The sea buckthorn oil is immediately soothing and the OLE glycerin tincture has various antimicrobial properties - but it may burn slightly for a minute. Combined with seabuckthorn oil takes away the burn.

Hemp seed oil is also rather thick and soothing.

He may be getting enough Vitamin C but I just came across this and thought it worth mentioning.

Many of us here can be at risk if fruit is avoided. Just found out that mangoes are very high in Vitamin C and that does not burn tender mouths as much. Still, a capsule may be necessary if foods burn.

There are symptoms of scurvy beyond what's mentioned in article. Mouth sores, fatigue, etc.

In looking for ‘zebra,’ doctors are stumped by toddler’s painful legs, rash and bleeding gums

By Sandra G. Boodman - The Washington Post - July 25, 2016

Excerpts:

. . . Bleeding gums, severe joint pain, a petechial rash, leg weakness and, in children, the frog leg position (first described in the 1880s) are all signs of scurvy . . . .

. . . The boy was started on vitamin C supplements, and within a few days, began moving his legs. Within a week, his gums stopped bleeding and his rash disappeared. Ten days later, he was walking normally. . . .

. . . and the boy began taking a daily vitamin and consuming an enriched drink. Four months later, he had fully recovered. . . .
