Like a lot of people with Lyme my body attacks any germs and kills them quickly.
The problem is that although I don't get many symptoms of a cold or sinus infection etc. I still feel toxic and it turns into my Lyme symptoms.
I know this is not the Lyme bacteria as it only happens when I am around a lot of people and get a virus that causes the sniffles etc. I don't have much problem in the summer because I am not teaching.
However, I go back to teaching junior high next week and am not sure what to do when this happens.
How do I tamp down the immune system without steroids or hard drugs.
Any natural ways?
Thanks.

Low dose naltrexone (LDN)?
Supposed to modulate the immune system.

Vit C is supposed to be a good anti-viral, also good for us as a collagen assist.
Host Defense is a product with 17 mushrooms in it.
I recall a long time ago I attended a cooking class for assisting with immune system health - they promoted miso soup with s-h-i-t-a-k-e (spell-check didn't allow typing it!) mushrooms and green onions, and an omiboshi plum paste to be put in smoothies, as it has a salty taste.

- I am never, ever a fan of either boosting or tamping down the immune system. Support is where I think it's all about. Feed the body excellent nutrients that support immune function, treat your body well and then let it decide how it needs to proceed hour by hour.
As WPinVA mentions, LDN is for modulation and modulation is a nice approach but not everyone does well with LDN. Just good to keep that in mind. -

The homeopathic remedy Baptisia tinctoria 30c worked for us in that situation of "feeling toxic". It really did pull our son our of hell. Along with feeling toxic he also felt achy, like he had the flu. It worked every time he felt exactly like that.
It was also good for depersonalization. He would lay in bed and not be able to sense his body. He would take the remedy and the feeling was restored from the feet going upward.

This was explained to me in a different way by a Homeopathic MD.
The reason why many people with chronic illness don't experience the "normal" symptoms of illnesses that go around (like colds, etc.) is not because their immune systems are hyperactive and are "killing the germs quickly". It is because the immune system has a "hierarchy"...it is reacting to and fighting the most threatening illness first (like Lyme, etc.).
The other less threating viruses and bacteria we are exposed to are still present and are a burden to the body, but the body deprioritizes these to be dealt with at another time when it is less threatened.
When I began recovering from Lyme and coinfections via mHBOT, I experienced my first colds/flues in years (although I was still homebound and it was not cold or flu season). The symptoms were so intense (and flared Lyme-like symptoms), I was certain I was relapsing, but was advised that this was a good sign...my body had now dealt with the more serious infections and was onto the less life-threatening ones lurking in my body.
So...if this is the case..."tamping down" the immune system may not actually be the answer...
