Hello, my doctor started me on Zith this week for bart, and she intends to add another antibiotic next week. My question is whether Zith can attack Bart at all on its own? I am feeling nothing since starting it a week ago.
Thanks

check Keebler's posts on protecting your ears, I got tinnitus that never left while on zith from not protecting mine(blender, hairdryer, etc.)

- dogmom,
Thanks so much for mentioning that. I'm to the point where when I see stuff I know I should respond to, I'm just worn out so am starting to be inclined to just not add it. So, for anyone who want to copy & paste to a handy file and then post whenever you want, please share where ever the need might arise.
jep,
for you:
I don't think it is ever a good idea to rely on one thing to address the complexities of any tick borne infection. Combinations, substantial support, etc. work in our favor.

Thank you all for these replies. My doctor is planning on adding another abx to the Zith next week.
So, will Zith on its own not cause any herx?
**And thank you for the tinnitis information.

- Oh, Zithromax can most certainly cause a herxheimer all by itself. Be sure to always have liver support on board before starting any Rx, really, any Rx at all. -

When treating lyme, any one antibiotic on its own will generally not cause a herx because lyme has the ability to evade ONE antibiotic at a time.
So, in the presence of zith (or doxy, or amoxi, etc.) it will just change into a form that these meds cannot kill. Hence, no herx.
Once you are on a combination of antibiotics--one known to kill lyme in the spirochete form and one known to kill it in the cyst form--THEN you begin killing lyme because it cannot evade being killed with such a combo.
Zith is not known for killing bart. See this page of a lyme book to see the meds that kill bart, the ones used for babs, etc.:
With lyme disease, it really, really pays to be an educated patient. So, read the few pages on bart treatment by Burrascano and also the link to the other lyme book.
Then, each day, read a few pages on babesiosis and ehrliciosis in Burrascano.
There is a long list of meds that can be used to treat lyme. In Burrascano, it starts on page 18. So, take a look at that.
And, to learn about the need to take two antibiotics at once to kill lyme, see page 12, "Combination Therapy."
The more you educate yourself, the more you will understand what your doctor is treating and why. Then, you will also be able to recognize poor treatment. This way, you will not waste a lot of time with a doctor who does not know what he is doing.
There just is no substitute for an educated patient this complex disease.
I never herxed until I went to a really good lyme doctor who followed the Burrascano protocol and put me on a high-dose combination of antibiotics protocol. I treated for at least 2 years with no herxes. But, when I was put on amoxicillin (high dose) plus flagyl (metronidazole), I finally had my first herx.
I wasted 2 years getting lousy lyme treatment until I studied Burrascano and went to hear him speak, and the principles of proper lyme treatment were then cemented in my brain.
Then, I left my lousy lyme doctor and got cured.
So, hopefully, once you study a bit, you will understand what your doctor is doing and his approach to treatment and you will at least be able to ask intelligent questions and evaluate whether or not you are with a good doctor.
Many doctors treat lyme disease, but very few are good enough to cure a person of it. I strongly suggest you find a doctor who follows the Burrascano protocol. That is not easy. You have to ask around among lots of patients.
