Anyone ever tried Caprylic acid for candida (or for anything)? My candida tests were all high (abnormal) though I know that doesn't nec. mean you have an issue or that it's even current,

but I've been having itchies in many places (hand, arm, stomach, foot, leg, mouth, collar bone; the latter 2 were also rash-y) And these were NOT at the same time. And I thought candida only affected near the mouth?

But anyway, I read that taking caprylic acid may cause herxing and to have liver support. I looked up liver support and I'm already taking a few of the things listed. Should I 'up' anything? My dr never mentioned the herx from it so...

I started the c. acid yesterday at half dose, and woke up today and my lips itch! I dunno if its merely coincidence or what.

I'm already off dairy and gluten (for maybe 8 months or more now).

Good job!

Candida can affect many many parts of the body.

How is your diet?

Yes, I'd say the itching sounds like candida. I sometimes apply a topical, Ketoconazole, to mysterious itches and it seems to help. It combats fungus. It's an Rx.

Candida affects the gut, then it can leak out in the fungal form and hit the whole body, including the brain. Do you crave bread, sugar, root beer, mushrooms? Those are all indications of candidiasis.

Oh my gosh - me and caprylic acid - my yeast doctor told me to take it - I did, and collapsed an hour later on the floor of Burger King, where I was getting ice for my ice bag for my neck.

So I hand the worker the number to the doctor's office for them to ask what I should do - and he calls them, saying, "Allo, dees ees Burger King - we have patient of yours!"

And I'm cringing, because the office had just told me not to eat anymore bread and sugar, which I was obeying, but I couldn't talk!

Even though I swore to them when I saw them again that I was just getting ice, they teased me forever as their "Burger King patient"!

So yes, we can herx on caprylic acid - it lasted a week for me - my first one ever. I ended up finding and going to the Candida Research and Information Foundation support meetings for the next 5 years because I thought, well, maybe that's what's wrong with me.

I went to a lot of wrong support groups. Well, it was ok to get educated about candida and all things wholistic and good for you, but nobody pegged the Lyme.

I talked to my doc yesterday (a phone appt) and they never got the candida titers results from my hospital (GRRRR!) so i told them over the phone the results and she rxed me Nystatin and Diflucan, which I hear are pretty standard for this.

But as always w/any new med, I'm kinda anxious about starting them. But I will.

Also rec'd either Vit E or Lotramin for the itchy spots. I'm trying Vit E first.
So the breakout on my mouth might have been from the C. acid? I'm on 600 mg of it.
And my god...collapsed? JEEZ! Thats terrible!!

She also said to avoid any herxing to take activated charcoal 2 hrs after taking the nystatin. What are herxing symptoms from taking these drugs? Should I do anything else besides the charcoal?

My diet outside of the no gluten or dairy is like a few servings of protein (meats, nuts, protein shakes/bars), a few of veggies, a couple of fruits, maybe pot. chips,

maybe a protein bar and/or organic gluten free granola, 73% dark chocolate. I dunno if I crave those things any more than usual.

It sucks not having bread though. I live in chicago and we're famous for our deep dish. And yeah, it's orgasmic. But oh well....

Other general symptoms (Ive had for a while, some years) are bone pain, nerve zaps, constant runny nose, clearing throat a lot-coughing up stuff, GI issues, used to have more nerve pain, which subsided a good amount after stopping Vit B6.

Also they're putting me on a nasal spray for MSH being low.

Whatever you try, take a small amount at first to make sure you tolerate it - I usually open capsules and recapsule contents in a smaller capsule to test, also cut pills in small pieces to try.
