Any cause of inflammation and scarring can be a contributing factor, I think. Some infections more so than others and lyme has some connections, too.

Alzheimer's is also being called "Type 3 Diabetes" by some.

Some researchers' work focuses on findings of diabetes / insulin resistance in alzheimer's, too. Whether correlation or causation is unclear yet a low carb diet is being investigated as helping against brain inflammation, and damaged circulation, etc.

Diabetes affects circulation in damaging ways -- and insulin resistance causes other troubles with surges of insulin. And that dance with dementia and alzheimer's is the subject of some pretty amazing research - and things that can be done about it without drugs.

See Virta Health website for their research. They have been able to help many actually reverse - yes, reverse - Type II Diabetes & the effects of insulin resistance with a very low carb lifestyle approach.

Many infections, especially, when chronic overlap - and diabetes can also overlap. I don't think there is ever going to be one single cause yet it's good to address them all.

Anything that hurts the brain, well, it's a no-brainer to assertively attend to anything that hurts the brain (or the body).

It's always time to have antiviral action on board. Always. But this is also because it's just part of what a good lyme protocol also considers as there are various viral components of the overall picture.

Stephen H. Buhner has a very nice book about herbal anti-virals. For a start.
