So, I'm taking cefprozil and think I'm herxing. I had about almost two full bottles of it sitting in the cabinet from a past prescription.
One bottle is almost empty, so I pull out the next bottle and the pills look weird. I google the pill numbers and the pharmacist accidentally filled it with Keflex!! So now I only have one cefzil pill left when I thought I had a whole other bottle.
Doc is out, so I can't call and ask for cefprozil. Doubt the pharmacy can help, since this prescription is months old and was actually written more than a year ago.
I do have Omnicef too, so my options are to switch to either Keflex or Omnicef at this point.
I'm guessing Omnicef is probably the better choice, right?

Call the doctor and tell him what happened. He should be able to write you a script and call it in for you to replace the bottle that had the wrong pills in it. Even if it's outdated.

He's out of the office till sometime next week. Plus it's an uncommon med, so it would be next Tuesday or Wednesday before a pharmacy could get it anyway.

Yes, take the Omnicef until you can call your doc.

Since you are herxing why not wait for your doc to get back and prescribe what you should be taking?
Tincup, I crash extremely badly within 2-3 days of stopping antibiotics, so I need to take something to at least bridge the gap hopefully. The crash is far worse than the herxing.

You said... "I crash extremely badly within 2-3 days of stopping antibiotics"
That is an indication Bartonella may be involved. Typically it can take weeks, or months even, to crash when stopping antibiotics for Lyme, but a Bartonella come-back typically has an immediate affect.
Just something to consider. My hope is you feel better soon!

Thanks Tincup, happy new year to you too! I do seem to have a bartonella problem, but I also crashed when I stopped amoxil before, so not sure what to make of it.
