Has anyone used the herb Hawthorn to help with any heart symptoms from Lyme disease? How did it go?

Similar to the story of Dr. Rawls, heart problems were the first symptoms that made me get checked out and discover I even had Lyme. I had arrythmias and my heart rate was a bit slower than usual(bradycardia), as is the case many times with people who've had Lyme for years and it's affecting the heart. But when I read about the herb Hawthorn, I keep seeing that it slows the heart down. It doesn't seem like this would be good for people whose heart rates are already on the slow side.

Any thoughts?

I think Buhner is of the opinion that it helps the heart whatever the issue. including arrhythmias

helps the muscle function despite circulation issues inc microcirculation and perfusion issues - which seems to be involved in lyme

my understanding is low heart rate in itself isn't an issue

i find it a pretty subtle herb - no dramatic effects

if you were concerned and wanted to be safe you could monitor your heart rate say first thing in the morning at rest for a few days before - and then while talking it to see how you get on.

Thanks for your input. Yea, that's exactly what I've been doing. It hasn't lowered my heart rate so far. It's hard to tell if my cardiac symptoms are better as of yet, though I was only taking 300mg a day, which I'm beginning to think is a pretty low dose, based on what I'm reading. I'll keep monitoring while I up the dose.

I haven't used Hawthorn myself, but I've heard a few things about it, especially regarding heart health. However, with your situation of having a slower heart rate due to Lyme disease, I totally get your concern. Herbs can be helpful, but they're also pretty strong and can have different effects depending on your health.

A family member of mine once wanted to try herbal remedies for her heart condition. Her doctor advised her to be super careful, especially with anything known to affect heart rate. So, it might be a good idea to talk to your doctor before trying Hawthorn.

I have taken Hawthorne. It is ok. My problem is high beating. I also take Motherwort tincture. That seems to help. You can make a consultation appointment with a herbalist trainer by Buhner. It is not that expensive.
