For those of you who do/have done Cowen, do you know why the instructions states "If you have received a long course or multiple short courses of antibiotics, then it is best to avoid ALL sugars and ALL highl glycemic index foods from day 18 to 78?"
What changes day 18 to 78? Higher doses, I suppose? Thanks!

I don't know why it wouldn't be from the beginning. Maybe because it would be too much for the system to suddenly stop eating sugar when starting a new protocol?? Stopping sugar doesn't surprise me, just the days.

Why do you need added sugar? There are other options.
I have stopped sugar very long ago (except in social occasions or a sweet from times to times).
During lyme, I was more strict, though.
Sugar brings NOTHING positive to the body, in my opinion. We always lose with every single teaspoon of sugar.
Acidity clearly increases, we feed candida and fungi, we overload our pancreas (as it has to rush to produce insulin, as sugar is extremely toxic for our cells)...
I just don't buy sugar. It's a good start. You may buy stevia (that kills borrelia), prepare your decoctions, keep it in the refrigerator and use it to sweeten.
Just what I would do.

I agree that the specific numbers of the days seems a little odd. Day 18, I assume, is when you have reached the full dose of Samento and Banderol and are about to have a day and a half break before moving onto Cumanda and Houttuynia, unless it has all changed.
I can't think why day 78 would have meaning in this context. This whole warning was not there when I did Cowden two or three years ago, although clearly, the advice to omit sugars is the norm for Lyme disease.

I know I should stay away from sugar - and I do - the most sugar I ever get is a glass of wine once a week, or fruit - mostly berries.
Brussels: Stevia is part of Cowden. Thirty drops in water - not pleasant! Soooo sweet!
I was just wondering if anyone knew why.
UK: no Cumanda nor Houttuynia yet. That starts days 79, and 184, respectively.
I don't think I'll last that long on the protocol, to be honest. No symptoms leftover at all. I feel great, especially when I exercise vigorously.
I just have found that at this point in my disease, I have to eat perfectly, or I pay. That seems to be the #1 path to wellness for me.

CONGRATS!!!!
I am on remission-mode for the last 7.5 years.
Controlling food is much easier without lyme, than during lyme.
I posted a thread on Cayce's recommendations for food. I find the guy is very down to earth, logic, somehow. He suggests all types of food, amounts that we need to consume a day.
I guess that most of us need to control what we eat. With or without lyme. Food is what makes our bodies, cells, our immune systems!

If you are askng why the stevia, it was not on the protocol when I was following it, but stevia is often touted as a Lyme treatment in its own right, i think because of anti-biofilm properties (son't quote me!).
As it happens, I did use it for a while as a sweetener, but it didn't seem to suit me.
