just want every one too know that this is a very

dangerous antibiotic, is has a side effect that is

hard to diagnose by our doctors. it is called

inter cranial hypertension. now it is not only

regular docs but lyme docs as well. if you take

this antibiotic you are setting yourself up

for disaster and life long disability..if you

get this side effect it will effect your

thinking and also may effect your eyes and

cause blindness. there is a reason this

antibiotic is not used. when this happens to

you you will think no worries ill go to the

hospital and get the pressure relieved. that

will be your first mistake as you will be met

by a psychiatrist. they wont believe a word

you say..then they will look into your eyes

and not see swollen disks or palpaldimia. at

this point they wont help you at all thinking

that if it is not effecting your eyes it is

not there and that is so wrong as it is really

there! now when this happens you will be in an

alzhiemers type of state and not able to fight.

this is the danger of this antibiotic! not doxy

mind you....the side effect is called psuedo

tumor cerebri ...deadly! why worry about side

of levaquin when tettra is much worse..my

lyme doc did not believe me when i pleaded

for help....why why why? all i asked for was

iv and you gave me this and said it did not

have side effects...liar..this is one doc who

minimizes bad side effects...any way truth

be told dangerous dangerous dangerous..i had

a perfect Mri before this crap and lesions

afterwards...everyday is a struggle! all i have

is the lord Jesus Christ to pull me out of this

one..

I am so sorry you are going through this. This is very scary. I have been on a high dose of tetracycline for several months and this information alarmed me. I did some research and learned that this can be a side effect of minocycline and other ABX as well.

Could you tell us more about your experience? Such as how long you were on tetracycline before you noticed any symptoms? What were your symptoms that you reported to your LLMD?

The articles I read state that this is more likely to occur when overweight or obese. By any chance would this apply? No disrespect intended but just trying to better understand this and help us to all make the best treatment choices for ourselves.

Here is a site that gives more information on this condition as a side effect of ABX.

http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/profs/PUarticles/bih.htm

Thank you for sharing this important information. I hope that you get some relief. Again, so sorry you are going through this.

I thought it would be helpful to others to describe here. But thanks just the same. Take care and I wish you well.

I took tetracycline with no problems... in fact it seemed to help me slightly more than most.

I am very thin.

I took 500mg four times daily. I took it for quite a few months. not exactly sure... maybe three four? five?

It did give me esophagitis once, so bad I was on the way to the ER, thinking something else was wrong!! Felt like a heart attack!

Till I figured out you need to drink plenty of water with it!

So sorry you had a bad experience with it, Overlyme!

Oh, and I had an MRI done not to long afterwards and it was clear, so the tetracycline hadn't hurt my brain in anyway.

I do think it is a med to watch very carefully though!!!!
