Just started mepron for Babesia. IGenex tests came back negative but I have every symptom of it. So I am being treated clinically.
Is this pretty common for it to come up negative and still have it?
Also, all the advancements in the world and they couldn't come up with something better tasting for this medicine!??!

Ahh mepron. Or as I call it yellow wall paint :-) You get used to it. I take it every day. I can chug it by itself without even thinking anymore. Its an acquired taste LOL Acquired by having to swallow it every day

Yes, the coinfection tests are as bad as the lyme tests if not worse. So, a good doctor knows to treat clinically.
Regarding the yellow paint, they all say, "Yuck!"
But, if it works for you, you will be very happy. Just look out for the "Mepron blues." There are long threads on LymeNet about how Mepron can cause depression including plans for committing suicide in some people. It happened to a friend of mine.
If that happens to you, back off the dose and then try again. That often will stop the problem. Otherwise, you have to stop the Mepron.
See p. 23 of Burrascano where he says to use multiple tests to check for babs, but to treat clinically if necessary:
"DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
Diagnostic tests are insensitive and problematic. There are at least thirteen, and possibly as many as two dozen Babesia forms found in ticks, yet we can currently only test for B. microti and WA-1 with our serologic and nuclear tests. Standard blood smears reportedly are reliable for only the first two weeks of infection, thus are not useful for diagnosing later infections and milder ones including carrier states where the germ load is too low to be detected. Therefore, multiple diagnostic test methods are available and each have their own benefits and limitations and often several tests must be done. Be prepared to treat based on clinical presentation, even with negative tests."
I was positive on the Igenex FISH test, but negative on the other babs tests. So, it is common.
Just so you know, our country's medical research arm (NIH, etc.) does not seem to have us on their radar. That is why the tests for lyme and coinfections are still so lousy and nobody is trying to make Mepron taste any better.
Join the LymeNet "activism" forum to help get us funding for these things. But first, we have to get the CDC to change totally and agree that chronic lyme exists and that lyme is DIFFICULT to cure.
As long as they keep spouting their party line:
"Lyme is RARE and EASILY cured" (so no big deal)
don't expect any advances in testing, treatment, etc.
This page from a good lyme book will give you some tips on taking Mepron:

Thanks Christopher and TF...yellow paint! That is exactly it! I was wondering what it reminded me of, and all of the painting I just did on the weekend, I never even thought of that.
Thanks for the information, and Christopher, I was told I had to take it with animal fat of some sort: butter, bacon, ice cream, etc.
Is this the case, or were others not told to do that?

Yeah you should take it with fat. Preferably saturated fat. So butter or cheese or milk.
