Another medical voice coming foward for better Lyme testing is always a good thing,
But, after being trained at Mayo, being a Rheumotologist for 40 years, and a University of Texas professor and to retire and then realize the horrors of Lyme ?
Because his daughter-in-law contracted Lyme, he finally GETS it !
Really, how many former patients of his in Tesas were turned away by this man ? Many Lyme patients go to a rheumotogist as their first line of defense. I did 4 years ago, sent home to die. And he also taught medical students, scary.
I m sorry, I just get so mad at all the medical professionals that said I needed a pyschriatist. And while that may be true, I also have Lyme disease. If I sound bitter, it's because I am.
I guess better late than never applies here.

Unfortunately, this is what it will take for things to change. I understand your anger, BB. I think most of us have it.
I have often wished that many of the doctors who argue there is no such thing as chronic lyme would get a taste of what it is like to live with this horrible illness for just a few days.
It is a disgrace that we have to suffer from not only the illness itself, but the psychological and emotional turmoil caused by ignorant doctors. We need more doctors like this one to come forward! Without doctors willing to cross this line, we will not make any progress.

I'm with you Bonnie, I suffered the same abuse here in Canada by pompous high-ranking "infectious disease specialists". The only thing they were specialized in was making me feel terrible.
One jerk never left his seat to examine me and simply wanted to submit me for psychiatric evaluation. My body was *covered* in lesions (see my posts in the "Do you have a rash photo" thread) and he refused to even look. That caused so much trouble for me.
I'm also bitter, a thorough examination with proper testing and treatment would have lessened the severity of my infection. At nearly 10 months I am finally on treatment thanks to my new Lymenet friends leading me to an educated tickborne disease specialist.
These idiots don't belong in public health if they can't keep abreast of emerging diseases. Yep, there's my bitterness showing its uglyness. Sigh.
