Anyone taking Pepcid as an H2 blocker for MCAD?

A doc recommended it to me for MCAD two years ago and I'm just now getting around to trying it. I think it may be helping but I can't find my notes about the proper dose.

Wondering what the appropriate dose for MCAD usually is...

I take it. Zantac makes my stomach hurt.

I take only one Pepcid per day .. Many with MCAS take at least two per day.

I also pair it with Zyrtec, which I take one per day. I'm stubborn and try to function on the least amount of drugs I can.

You do need to take an H1 and an H2 for the synergistic effect.

Thanks Lymetoo! Are your Pepcid pills 10mg or 20mg? I think it's two 20mg pills that a lot of people probably take.

He actually recommended taking three h1 blockers with it. That seems a little much right now so I'll probably start with just Claritin as an H1 blocker and see how that goes.

I already seem to feel a little better from the Pepcid and I just started yesterday. I'm kinda surprised.

I take the 10 mg .. I stay low and slow! HA!! Pepcid and Zantac used to make my stomach hurt.. Now I can take Pepcid. I think it's the food colorings I can't handle.

I take Zyrtec as it's more effective for me than Claritin. Claritin also began to keep me wired and I couldn't sleep. Zyrtec can make you drag a bit though.

Quite often, I will take 1/2 Zyrtec in the morning and 1/2 at bedtime.

Lol low and slow, I hear ya! I normally like to be that way with most things but I'm having to get pretty aggressive treating this stomach ulcer, and Pepcid is part of that. I'll probably be up to 2x 20mg pills per day either tomorrow or the next day.

The doctor did tell me to take two Claritin per day, I guess maybe because it's less effective. He recommended that + one Zyrtec + one Singulair + Pepcid + Cromolyn every day. Lots of drugs! The list gave me a mini heart-attack.

I'm dragging so bad right now that I might welcome feeling a little wired lol. I might give the Claritin a shot once I feel stable on the Pepcid.

Dr. C also is recommending three Claritin per day right now to help with treatment. I may try to get to that point eventually.

Curious? Why are you following Mast Cell protocol to treat your ulcer?

If the answer is that you've alway had these MCAS symptoms but they've only recently gotten worse. That's understandable.

So if you truly do have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, first I recommend that you find a MCAS/Mastocytosis specialist somewhat nearby. (Go to tmscure.org).

Mast Cell Disease can be complicated so it would be best to see someone with most experience in the field. (This is not your LLMD, sorry).

I'm not following Mast Cell protocol to treat an ulcer. It's just coincidence that there is a little overlap between the two treatments for me (Pepcid).

So getting the ulcer has prompted me to actually try the Mast Cell protocol I was given two years ago, since I have to take Pepcid anyway. Previously I was reluctant to suppress my stomach acid for digestive reasons, but now (with the ulcer) I have no choice.

Also, the LLMD who prescribed the MCAD medications frequently treats it, and I trust his expertise.
