I am home from two days in the hospital. didn't feel good the last week. so very tired, severe shortness of breath, weak, headache, chest and back pain. went to dr. he sent me straight to er.
they thought it was heart attack but when they saw bp, that went out the window. my bp was 253 over 147. omg!!!! I had two nurses and a full time dr. they hooked up iv, heart monitor. did ekg, cat with contrast.blood and urine.
pills didn't work so they started iv meds. got it down to 174. said they were keeping me until they did more tests.
up to room. had heart halter put on. bp went up so gave me iv med again. it was 183. then tried clonidine.
gave me potassium cause it was low. however sugar and cholesterol was good.
next morning did echogram, more tests and blood.
that afternoon cardio came in and said all tests were NORMAL!! crap.
they couldn't figure out why and neither could i. they told me I can't travel now and need to stay close to baylor.
they finally sent me home second night with a prescription for 2.5 norvasc. sister said it put her in hosital with severe edema so I'm scared to take it.
I don't know why it happened but I'm scared witless.
anybody have experience like this? can lyme do this? I have to go back to gp in two weeks then see cardio in 4-6 weeks.
was not prepared for this.

I hope they get it under control, randi. You've had trouble with this before. That has to be VERY scary!
One concern about Norvasc to be on the look out for is "coughing" .. if you can't stop coughing, it's the Norvasc.
Everyone reacts differently to meds, so stay in hope that it will be OK for you. They still sell it for a reason... IT WORKS FOR SOMEONE!
Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Hi! I had something similar happen to me too. Mine occurred not long after a botched second shoulder surgery. Took my GP months to get my blood pressure down. She put me on Toprol 200 mg a day for years. Cardio MD switched me to Norvasc 5 mg not to long ago.
Oh, almost forgot, mine was in the 200/100 ranges also.
Very, very scary! I hope they get yours under control soon.
