- The LIVER is a favorite topic of mine. Off the top of my head, sharing my best observations:
1. I find it absolutely the first thing to consider regarding mood. Because if it's not functioning at its best, IMO, the first red flag for me is that my mood will dip a bit or, if I ignore it, could dump me into the depths of despair.
And the more I learned about the liver, the more sense this made due to what I call the carrying of toxic sludge. But also as the liver does so much when it can't do its job, all systems can go kaput. -

. . . The liver is one of the largest organs in the body. It has many important metabolic functions. It converts the nutrients in our diets into substances that the body can use, stores these substances, and supplies cells with them when needed.
It also takes up toxic substances and converts them into harmless substances or makes sure they are released from the body. . . .

- After reading those two articles, you may have a better idea of WHY it might be BLOATED / INFLAMED or more likely, also cause your stomach to become bloated / inflamed.
Anyone with lyme is very likely to have an inflamed liver. It's just part of the deal with any infection that the liver can take a hit.
In addition to addressing infection(s)
By helping the liver with key support, bloating can diminish.
Of course, be sure to mention this to your LLMD &/or regular doctor. You may need to be assessed for various causes of liver dysfunction.
An Ultrasound or some other imaging test might be in order, as well as some blood tests for liver function & also for some infections that are known to affect the liver.
You might need to be assessed for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which can result from
infections such as lyme, certain foods, etc. And it can often be reversed with certain attention. The Liver Support thread has more detail.
Your LLMD is the first person you should talk to, though, if possible. Lyme & other tick borne infections can cause the liver / belly to bloat.
Yet your LLMD should be able to take a look, feel your belly and listen and have some idea of what's going on & if you might need more specific medical attention for this.
Do not assume this is just lyme or just lyme treatment, though. Have a doctor check this out.
other things to think about:
CANDIDA - yeast overgrowth can also cause bloating. Antibiotic uses requires the use of some kind of antifungal treatment. Usually an herbal approach can help or, at times, limited antifungal RX.
A diet of good proteins, good fats and complex carbohydrates from the planet earth (not processed) are important as simple sugars can make candida worse.
GLUTEN can also cause liver inflammation & the belly to balloon big time. Gluten is all forms of wheat, barley, spelt, rye and hidden in many processed foods. -

- More articles here about liver inflammation & what can help. Milk Thistle is the most common helper that some start with, after reading about how to use it.
LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too. -

- You ask (when liver is bloated) Do you hold off on med?
That is something your doctor needs to direct. It depends on what the Rx is for and what it is.
Some Rx are harder on the liver than others.
Be sure to read the manufacturer's direct website page for the full pharmacy detail on that Rx.
Then also read from other key sources of good repute. But also look around on your own a bit and look at the links for those that are more educational.
Google: "Rx name", liver
then "Rx name" Kidneys
then "Rx name" side-effects
It may be that if it's too hard on the liver you would need to alter your treatment but, if the Rx is absolutely required, you'd sure need to talk with your doctor first.
With key support, it's possible to help mitigate some of the stress on the liver that some Rx may cause. Or you may require a completely different Rx if that is the source of a problem.
If you are talking about treatment for lyme / tick borne infections, there are many ways to alter one's individualized protocols. Most LLMDs are quite used to having to rotate / combine / change out, etc.
If for another condition you have, again, your LLMD should be able to guide you here, too.
Aside from lyme / TBD treatment,
There are some medications for various conditions that simply should not be stopped cold (would require easing down in dose, slowly over time) and some that would require other kinds of medical advice in advance.
IMO, if something is not working or causes unreasonable distress, there has to be some solution, a different approach. -

- TRIPHALA
This is an herbal formula that can gently help the colon. If, by chance, you might have some constipation, you might consider this as a round about way to help with what seems to be liver bloating.
A stressed liver can often cause constipation. And if the bowels are not moving well, all systems will just back up and then you have toxic sludge to carry around.

- If the bloating / inflamation might be in part due to candida / yeast / fungal overgrowth (which is common with antibiotic use) . . . this is what helped me the most with that, in addition to a good diet free of simple sugars.
And it has positive properties for the liver (and for some viruses that stress the liver) as well:

- There's a lot above, sort of a collection of those aspects that I found "called" to me and from more hours than I can believe reading about the wonderful liver.
Oh, remember that water is also a key helper to help reduce bloating.
I hope others will also chime in as to maybe some things they figured out regarding their own experiences with
bloated / inflamed liver / belly
Good luck. -
