I was recently diagnosed with babesia duncani, are these two medications most common to treat this and also what can I expect on these two combos. mephron and Zithromax?

Hi I would say most effective but it can take months of treatment. If you have other TBD co infections you will need a 3rd medication.

thanks for the reply, are there are issues with these two medications that I should be aware of. My llmd said I would herx from them but not sure what herxing actually means. I am new to this. she did say to take with fatty foods which I am not sure what and also what else should I know. thanks for any help. Does A-babs help also?

It was mepron/zith combo that brought me into remission 15 years ago. Mepron doesn't have much for side effects but you will experience die off (herx) with this combo. The first 3 weeks were terrible for me and after that I felt like a new person.
I just tested positive for b. duncani last week. I will be starting mepron tonight.

Did you have Babesia duncani 15 years ago? Because this combo is sometimes not as effective with duncani as it is with other strains ...
(Not trying to say it won't work in your case, Linda. Everybody's different :-)

You're supposed to take Mepron with a macrolide like Zith for proper effectiveness. You can try Biaxin (clarithromycin) as an alternative and Ive had that regimen before. Biaxin has a much shorter half life though than Zith so multiple times a day.
