My 15 year old has been dealing with Lyme for many years. She’s been on oral antibiotics, herbals etc. Tomorrow she will start IV treatment because she finally has a CDC positive test and insurance will pay for her treatment.
I’m so worried about how she will respond to this as far as herxeimer reaction. Orals always made her feel crappy, and I’m sure that’s because she was herxing. Will this be worse? Different? Easier? Any ideas? I can’t bear to see her so miserable with chronic pain and fatigue. I am so hopeful that this will possibly be the beginning of her getting well. I would very much appreciate any experiences or thoughts.
As an aside, I personally had IV treatment ten years ago and I was actually much sicker than my daughter is so it’s hard to compare my situation to hers.

May I ask if your daughter is under the care of a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD)? This is very important and makes all the difference in getting proper treatment.
A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.
My son became ill as a child and has been ill now for a number of years. He did not need IV antibiotics and only took orals, so I'm unable to address your specific questions. I agree with poster Lymetoo that the IV antibiotics should be easier on the gut.
Read the books written by the top LLMD, Dr. H titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?" and "How Can I Get Better?". They are an excellent source of information. Check your local library or buy them used online.

I could never take orals at the doses needed to treat this illness so I have always done IV. No problems but yes the die off reactions are more severe.

Thank you all for the replies! My daughter sees a wonderful LLMD who basically saved my life ten year later ago from decades of untreated Lyme. Thank you for the links, I will check those out!!
So far my daughter has had one injection but will be gojng three times each week. I’m hopeful that this is the answer for all these years of feeling absolutely horrible!!
