Has anyone ever experienced this?

I am experiencing left ear popping/cracking sound with on/off jaw pain.

Started Saturday, no pain Sunday, pain on Monday, no pain Tuesday or Wednesday, pain on Thursday.

It is uncomfortable to chew. Not sure if it is inflammation jaw/partoid gland or ear issue.

I have appt. with ENT...but have a sneaky suspicion that I will depart with "everything looks fine."

I am currently on 2nd cycle of clindy/plaq and start 2nd cycle of biaxin/plaq tomorrow.

I think this is part of the picture for a lot of us. Dr. K says this is a common place for the bugs to hide.

I would suggest learning more about cavitations (do a search here on Lymenet, there is a lot of info.)

For relief, you can try oil pulling. It has many health benefits, and you often feel immediate relief in the jaw. (oilpulling.com). It's been posted about here on Lymenet.

Check into a good bio dentist that can do ozone treatments/injections.

Also check out my post on Dr. K's recipe for sinus infections.

You have to be diligent about dealing with this situation. When the bugs take up residence here, it's tricky to get them out. I'm still working at it.

Don't force that pop or aggravate it.

I would hope you've had an image taken of your temporomandibular joint. If not, I'd first read the information on cavitations as one image may capture all the detail you need.

You may be low in magnesium. If the muscles are all tense, they can have tremendous pull, push and pressure on tendons and all kinds of things can go out of whack, so to speak.

Magnesium is the very best muscle relaxant. Fish oil will also help the body to not get so tense and support nerve function.

And/or you may need cranial-sacral therapy that might include working from the inside of the mouth, too.

You might find someone trained in the UPLEDGER style at their website. More body work links in the ear thread below.

I hope you have found an ENT who is lyme literate. Your LLMD should be able to suggest one.

If not, just don't expect them to know all they need to know about YOUR body. However, there may still be some very valuable information you can gather from the appointment as not everything is lyme.

(But lyme seems to somehow complicate everything even if not lyme-related.)

ENTs can be fond of steroid shots. Not good with lyme. Ask details about any oral Rx, shot, lotion, etc. You have to ask specifically if there is any kind of steroid in whatever he/she may suggest.

No Steroids (unless a life-threatening situation - or one that threatens breathing, vision or hearing -- and then, only along with certain abx, if possible).

TMJ ....J stands for Joint. Lyme loves joints. Do a search in here and you'll find lots of info. Treat your jaw like a sprain. No heavy chewing. No sticky chewy things. Lips together teeth a part will relax the jaw. Sleep on your back, not side of face as it torqued your jaw.
I worked close to 35 yrs for a dentist plus I have TMJ issues. It will also give you pain in your ear like an ear infection. Plus stiff neck into shoulder.

It could be a herd of sorts if it came on suddenly. Or did you chew a lot of fun or bagels or tough steak. It takes weeks or more to settle down a flare in the joint.

(breaking up the paragraph for easier reading for many here)

I have TMJ and have thought I am just stuck with it. But recently, I went to an outstanding cranial therapist who worked inside my mouth and made it possible for me to open my mouth with greatly reduced jaw clicking. So that's an idea for anyone who wants to explore this treatment.

Btw, I see that Keebler above here also mentioned cranial work and contacting the Upledger folks.

I see this post was brought up from earlier, but this info is as relevant today for anyone needing to explore options.
