I need to go back on an abx protocol for Lyme & co-infections. For years I needed and used a prescription strength high-dose, multi-strain probiotic. It used to be VSL #3, but the company has changed hands, and now it’s called Visbiome.

It was, and is, fabulously expensive, but it used to be covered, as the strength I need is a prescription product that had studies done on it. Now, although I very much need it, there is no way to get it covered.

Does anyone know of a really good high-dose, multi-strain probiotic that is not so incredibly expensive?
Or a way to make yogurt out of Visbiome
/VSL #3 to stretch it?

As it is now, the Visbiome would cost me more than $10-15 per day for that alone! On top of the fact that if I go back on IV abx, which I definitely need, I’ll have to pay for that plus all the supplies out of pocket.

Thank you!

I usually buy from Custom Probiotics. Their products last a LONG time.

Thank you, Lymetoo. They do look good. The only way to get the high dose that I did well with Visbiome is to pay their super high price!

I have heard about making a yogurt out of it, or other probiotics, to stretch them, but who knows how well it works or what you end up with. It might be worth a try, however.

Yes, I've thought about making my own yogurt using the Visbiome as a starter. I don't know if that would work, or if that would be along with a yogurt starter, or what.

The whole idea would be to increase the amount and variety of the probiotics. I already eat kefir and yogurt daily----very good quality I might add, obtained directly from the farmers.

It's just that, not only do I require a lot of probiotics to begin with, due to years of abx when I was young, but once I start on hefty abx for TBDs again, as I very much need to, I have a lot to replace.

I guess it's worth a try. I contacted the company that sells Visbiome, and the only price discount they offer is a small one, especially if you do a subscription. It's still way over $5/packet, and I would need a minimum of 2/day.

Thank you, everyone.

Someone on another forum was mentioning that for people with MCAS, fermented foods aren't good, because they're high in histamine. I don't know if I have an MCAS problem or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Lymetoo, you do, don't you? (If you don't mind my mentioning it). Do you agree? It sounds like not, not sure. I'm not really educated about MCAS.
