I've been progressively sick for about 5 years with what I always thought to be CFIDS (like some of you, probably) however recently my pcp suggested we test for Lyme and I now realize the chance I have Lyme is much greater than what I had thought orginally (never having investigated it thoroughly having never heard about ticks in my area). I would appreciate it greatly if any of you can give me contact information for Lyme Doctors in San Diego, preferrably someone who keeps up with the research (been to so many doctors who don't even keep up with the research on what they purport to treat, and most drs. seem like they can't stand it if the patient knows something they don't--is informed...) on the dif. forms of borrelia & chronic lyme, but anyone is familar with it would be great.
Thanks very much,
John

Wow, I was about to post a topic on the same question! Anyone who has info on a Lyme doc in San Diego, please CC: me the info as well!
I used to go deer hunting with my dad in the northern california woods many years ago (when we actually killed/dressed a deer, the number of ticks on one deer was incredible, to say the least). I never observed a tick bite (my dad actually found a couple of them buried in his flesh), but that doesn't appear to mean anything with this insidious disease.
I haven't been deer hunting in 15+ years, but have been suffering with progressive, severe (at times, nearly disabling) fatigue and progressive psychological (brain fog/poor memory) and developing diffuse neurological problems for about the last 14 years...
I've been tested twice with simple tests for Lyme, but I've also read that those tests aren't very reliable, especially for someone who might have been infected for 10+ years.
I need a good doc. in San Diego (or Orange County/Riverside/LA). I've checked with the California support group and haven't found a heck of a lot for Southern California, esp. San Diego. Given the number of people who come into contact with ticks in San Diego versus places like Northern California, I'm not too surprised... but I'm betting there are a few. I just haven't been able to dig them up.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
-Jeff

Don't know anybody in San Diego, but sent a couple of names for the southern end of the state.
Hope it helps. Most people have to travel to get good treatment.
Jeff, I'm sorry you're in the same situation as me-- hopefully we'll both find good doctors, (also hope your parents, or at least your dad, believe you) or maybe the same one. Thanks to NP40 and riversinger for already responding with suggestions or emailing me the contact information for some Drs.
When I was less sick, it always made me really sad or depressed that I could be in so much pain and the people I was around, especially those who I expected would care about me, either showed no concern, certainly didn't do anything and mostly stopped being my friend. However back then I was smart enough to reason that if the "well" me met the "sick" me, I would probably have done the same thing as those people. It always gives me a measure of joy, or maybe reassurance, to see that even if such indifference to others is true as a generality there are exceptions and people who are separate from it.
Much Appreciated,

Jeff and John, I live not too far north of Los Angeles and have a good, up to date Lyme MD. E-mail me if you like and I'll give you his name and telephone number. He goes to the Lyme conferences and tries to stay up to date. Perhaps if you called his office he would know of someone down your way.
