Hi, I am 24 years old, Earlier this year, about three months ago or so, I noticed a bite on the back of my neck that itched and it got hard and swelled up. My entire side of my neck tensed up really bad and one of my lymph nodes above the bite swelled up like a rock in the back of my neck. Eventually it went down, i felt sick for a couple of days, ever since I have been having odd symptoms from muscle twitching throughout my whole body, to weakness in legs and arms, neck and back pain, I have felt numbness, the symptoms seem to come and go over a couple of days, like recurring flu's or colds. Is this characteristic of Lyme? I got tested at the hospital and it came back negative, mri showed nothing abnormal at all, I'm seeing a chiro and an ear nose and throat doctor for chronis sinisitus, but ever since this bite I have had all these weird symptoms and no explanation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Lyme testing is not very straightforward. At the hospital, they probably ran an ELISA test, which has a high false negative rate. A better test is the Western Blot by Igenix labs, but please keep in mind that Lyme is a clinical diagnosis, meaning that you can have Lyme and have equivocal or negative test results (this is particularly true for Lyme co-infections).
An excellent place to start learning about Lyme & co-infections is Dr. Burrascano's "Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines" at the Ilads website: http://ilads.org/guidelines.html
Try to find a doctor that specializes in Lyme. Most PCPs are uninformed about the complexity of the disease. To find someone near you, go to Support Groups (on the left of your screen). You can also post a note in the Finding a Doctor Thread.
Take care!
p.s. I posted much of the same material in response to another poster, so sorry if it sounds familiar!
