I had knee surgery for an injury in April, but the swelling persisted and then pain started in my other knee, then my elbows, then my neck. The ortho tested my for Lyme - ELISA positive but Quest WB negative (reactive in band 41 only). I started researching Lyme and realized that a couple years ago I had a small red circle on my arm that went away after a couple days, then in Jan 2008 had a high fever with joint pain and major muscle tension in my head, neck and jaw. This precipitated a bad case of tinnitus and hyperacuity, which resolved through the year. Then in March of this year had a sudden onset of floaters in my eyes. Then had the knee surgery mentioned above. Also, in June had a bout of heart palpitations and bad dizzy spells that lasted about 2 weeks.

My former family doc said "the test doesn't lie" and that my joint pain was all in my head (RA, gout and lupus tests were negative and my SED rate was very low - 3) or it's just that I'm getting older (50). I found a new doctor who has taken more time with me. I was on a short course of Doxy and became very ill... I had a major "panic attack" unlike any I've had before (body shivering and shaking). Terrible fatigue and joint pain and diarrhea for 30 days. Severe depression and anxiety set in (I have a history of these). I was off work for two months. I've stayed off abx because I seemed to also develop some candida symptoms. I was on Diflucan for 10 days - strangely my elbow pain went away with that.

I have recently had a CD57 test (not from Labcorp) with a count of 45 on their scale of 0 to 741 as "normal." My doc does not feel comfortable intrepreting my various tests and won't send labwork to IgenX. He is encouraging me to find a Lyme specialist though.

Physical therapy on my knee has helped and I started PT on my neck, but that has made it worse. I'm getting an MRI of my neck tomorrow.

So... Any suggestions? I would love to be able to see a doctor in Central VA who might be able to diagnose this properly.

Thanks!

Your doctor is right .. the test doesn't lie .. THE ELISA TEST!

It is notorious for missing Lyme.. so if yours came back positive, that is BIG!

What you experienced while on the doxy is called a herx. It happens with only a few diseases, Lyme being one of them!!! It's a worsening or intensification of symptoms.

Next time you get on antibiotics (abx) be sure to take PRObiotics so you will be less likely to get yeast!!

You probably had some yeast in your joint and the Diflucan made it go away. Happens to me with joints in my hand.

I'll send you names of drs in VA.

Welcome!! [Cool]
