I'm frustrated. I think that's a feeling anyone who comes to this board can understand. I've been sickly for years -- constant pain, hurting joints, declining cognitive abilities. The last one especially galls me, as I've become so adle-brained that I had to give up on finishing my bachelor's degree. I had several professors who encouraged me to pursue doctorates in their fields, yet I find myself these days barely able to remember why I walked into a room or the steps I need for my menial technical job.
I've had a plethora of diagnoses, and none of the medication for those ever worked. To make a long story short, I was on antibiotics for a nasty upper respiratory infection early this spring when I found that my pain was disappearing, my mood was improving and my mental abilities were getting better. Whoa.
It was actually an ADDer (yet another wrong diagnosis) who suggested I might have Lyme. Lo and behold, I'd found it. All the symptoms matched, including all those nasty tick bites I used to get when hiking.
Then I found out how disappointingly retarded the average physician is. I can't begin to tell you how much contempt I have for the typical American physician now. Well, I could tell you, but I'm sure the moderators wouldn't allow that kind of language here.
Thanks for reading this far. I know the database is set up by state, but if you have a referral for a good physician in Houston, then I'd appreciate it.

hello mr fox- i'm frustred too- though our stories are not the same we are in the same place: seeking a dr who will treat the disease and not have to go to many drs to seek treatment for each individual condition this disease causes-
i was diagnosed with lyme in 94- i won't go into the whole story, but within the past year i'd been treated with antibiotics and noticed improvements too- improvements above and beyond the conditions i was being treated for- i actually began to feel better than i had been feeling prior to the recent sickness- unfortunately, i could not persuade the dr to prolong the treatment- fortunately, it taught me that i have to be my own advocate-
i would also greatly appreciate a referral- (i'm in ohio) but the haystack is large and the needles few- i guess the key is to not let that discourage you- winston churchill said something like ""when going through hell, keep going""-
