I'm in day 2 of doxycycline after 2 weeks of clueless suffering from pain all over. I'm ok in day, but when I lay down to sleep, pain in lower back is awful. Worst last night after 1 doxycycline. Any tips? I read that hot baths with epsom salt and 1-2 quarts of hydrogen peroxide will help get toxins off skin. But hydrogen per. on skin seems like a bad idea. Anyone tries it or other ermedy?

- HOT baths are to be avoided. Lyme patients generally do very poorly with heat. WARM baths are good, though. And Epson Salts are nice. I don't "do" the hydrogen peroxide but some do. I think epson salts are enough, at least for a start.
Just don't get too hot or overly warm for too long.

Hi yoga lady. when i first started doxy i didnt know anything about lyme so i bought a new mattress not knowing what herxing was. things got worse.dizzy shooting stabbing pain..for 2 weeks then the fog in my head lifted. dont worry if those things happen to you too, unfortunatly its part of it. ibuprofin is the only rellief as it relaxes the muscles unless you want something stronger which your dr. can recommend. good luck michele

- YogaLady, it's important to be aware, though, that ibuprofen can be hard on the kidneys. And Acetaminophen is very hard on the liver. -------------------

My doctor told me my strain goes into dormancy in the heat. This makes a lot of sense to me since I feel the most pain in colder temperatures or, in the summer going from heat to air conditioning.

- I'm not sure if strain makes a difference in how too much heat can make us feel worse, though. Many spirochetes ball up into cysts from the heat. That's not really desirable but it beats them all having a blast at our expense, perhaps. We'll just have to deal with a tougher form later, though.
However, how the heat can make lyme patients feel worse is not so much about the spirochetes although they can emit more toxins by being irritated enough to go into cyst form . . . but . . .
the body of a lyme patient often loses its ability to modulate body functions in heat. So, all sort of things internally can make us feel much worse - even relapsing.
Heat intolerance and failure of internal regulation systems are discussed at both links below:
