I was bitten on the back of the neck by a tick in 1976, i was 2 years old. I developed all the classic lyme symptoms and the dr's thought it may be rocky mountain spotted fever. Years went by and i grew up never knowing what a pain free life was. 4 years ago while living in Missouri i found a llmd. He ran a western blot on me and my then 12 year old son(who had never been bitten) We both showed positive by cdc guidelines. We tried the antibiotic's i lasted 3 months my son only lasted 2 months. The jarix herxheimer reactions became so bad i had to crawl to the bathroom.
We have since moved to Utah, I have a very understanding doctor, but unfortunately he knows very little about lyme. In a conversations with Dr. Burgdorfer several years ago, he said there are few studies of people in my situation. He did say that the bacteria was transferred through to my son by the cord blood and breast milk.
I just don't know what to do, my son's legs hurt all the time, there are days he can barely walk. Unfortunately i know what he is in for a life of pain, fatigue and depression. The llmd we saw in Mo, thought his growth plates may have been effected, causing the pain in his legs.
I'm tired of taking medication to treat the symptoms and doing nothing for the root cause. Any help in finding a Dr. is much appreciated.
