I was tested positive for lyme by ELISA and western blot labcorp about 2 weeks ago. Igm positive bands 23 and 41 and IgG negative for bands.I was also tested for all autoimmune diseases, sugar levels, thyroid, antinuclear antibodies, vitamin b and d levels and blood count SED rate and a few other blood test. all was normal except for WBC was 14.3 and the lyme. My family MD seems to think this is a recent infection since only Igm is positive, I disagree i was diagnoised 10 yrs ago with FMS without any dr. ever running any test and not even checking tender points for FMS they just threw a label of FMS on me cuz i did the research on fibro and it sounded like what i had. MD has now started me on doxy 100 mgs twice daily for 30 days then check my blood again. (for what?)to see if the IgM converts to IgG or just disappears i guess. Now the reason why the dr decided to run all these blood test was because i was haveing periphael nuropathy(spelling there not sure) and joint pain that has been getting worse over time i have been sick for so long and have a list of multi symptoms that i have never told any MD cuz i felt like they would not believe me cuz everything comes and goes and hits different parts of my body at different times. The only thing that seems to stay consistant is the muscular skeletin pain and just feeling drug out everyday. Because i believe i have been sick with lyme for so long i feel i need to find a llmd or someone who is very knowledgeable on the treatment course as my Md is clearly not. i do not know if there is anyone in dallas tx. who treats lyme but am willing to travel and phone appointments for treatment. Please help im 45 and feel like im 70 and getting sicker every day

Welcome!!! Could you repost this in Medical so you can get more help with your medical questions?

My hands really hurt tonight so i will be brief. I'll send you some info and will post a link here.

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/88555

From the link inside the above link on the western blot:

"With most infections, your immune system first forms IgM antibodies, then in about 2 to 4 weeks, you see IgG antibodies. In some infections, IgG antibodies may be detectable for years.

Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a chronic persistent infection that may last for decades, you would think patients with chronic symptoms would have positive IgG Western blots.

But actually, more IgM blots are positive in chronic borreliosis than IgG. Every time Borrelia burgdorferi reproduces itself, it may stimulate the immune system to form new IgM antibodies.

Some patients have both IgG and IgM blots positive. But if either the IgG or IgM blot is positive, overall it is a positive result.

Response to antibiotics is the same if either is positive, or both. Some antibodies against the borrelia are given more significance if they are IgG versus IgM, or vice versa."
