We pulled a deer tick off of my child. Since we were in the woods, it could only have been on her for about 5 hours. I am trying to find a doctor to talk to about it and decide about testing.

You need to get your child in to see a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD) a.s.a.p. !!

Hi MMSmith:
The good news is not all ticks carry Lyme disease.
At best without tell tale symptoms a MD will prescribe one day of amoxy (not doxy if the child is under 8 and this time of year due to sun side effect).
They will normally wait for a EM rash or flu like symptoms.
Note if you removed the tick without squeezing its midgut there have been studies done where there is only a 7% chance of a tick tranmitting lyme in under 24 hours (an Infectious Disease MD will tell you 36 hours but the underlying studies they site don't support the conclusion).
Now ticks are known to be cesspolls of infection and may also carry Babesia, Erlicholiosis, Bartonella, mycoplasma and other bacteria and parasites. Some of these infections can be transmitted quickly (erlicholsis in 15 minutes).
Your best bet is to talk to your family MD and discuss your concerns. Maybe they will provide 10 days of amoxy.
I won't go into the nighmare we had with our daughter.
