I was bitten by two ticks on my right leg while hiking the Sweetgum Swamp Trail in the Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve in NC on June 8th, and the very next day experienced muscle aching. I'm concerned because I only removed one tick, but the next day spotted a second roaming within my car, so there may still be a small nymph tick on my skin (unless that second tick detached by itself).
I can't see one of the spots clearly - it's behind my knee - but I have two uniform red circular rashes that are spreading around the sites of the bites and am worried that this may be the start of lyme disease. i''ve been bitten by a tick before on two separate occasions and never felt this way. Is there a doctor that you can recommend that I see in the DC/VA/MD area where I live?
Thanks!

I will send you a private message with the doctor information I have.
In the meantime, be sure to get photos of your rash. It is important documentation. Place something near the rash, like a coin or ruler, before photographing to give it size definition. Document the date. Get more photos as the rash changes.
Did you save the ticks by chance?

Unfortunately Sammi, I didn't save the ticks. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to do so. The two that I saw (one on my skin, the other in my car) were pretty large though (at least 4 millimeters in width). Hopefully that'll help us narrow down the species.
