HI all,

So I was diagnosed with a brand new case of Lyme (a couple months old) as well as a case of Lyme that is a bare minimum of 10 YEARS old (I am 22). For the third time over the past 10 years, my knee swelled like a balloon to the point of not being able to walk or move it at all, and when I was tested (finally) for Lyme, they said I had both IgM and IgG antibodies.

I'm dealing with a host of other symptoms, both from advanced Lyme and the new case I have as well -- which seems to be aggravating the old one. A few of the symptoms have been very debilitating and frankly my quality of life has taken a huge nosedive. I'm desperate to prevent it from getting worse or being prolonged.

I'm currently on the non-LLMD standard 28-day course of 100 mg of doxycycline 2x a day and I feel like it isn't doing much... I've been on it for 11 or 12 days so far. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to kick in to relieve some symptoms (if ever)?

If anyone could give me the name of some LLMDs in Massachusetts (I'm in Boston) that would be phenomenal!

Thank you, and best of luck to you all.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for CT.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

LLMDs are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MassachusettsLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
