Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience working with Dr. G @ NIHA? My wife has been ill since late April 2015. I went earlier this month after a recommendation from a coworker that was successfully treated, but she was treated under Dr. B, who apparently now has his own practice a couple hours away from where my wife and I live.

I've searched the forums and saw a couple posts saying "I've heard good things about Dr. G," but never anything beyond that.

I'm so scared and frightened for my wife after being passed around to several doctors who mis-diagnosed her. I would give anything to see my wife's health return.

Thank you.

You should be talking to support groups in that area. They will have the most up to date information about doctors there. See support group listings on this page, green box left side. The biggest group there is NatCapLyme.

NIHA?? Is that a hospital system??

Most LLMD's are NOT associated with hospitals. It limits what they can do.

I'll send you some info for DC.

NIHA is a private group practice. The lyme doctor who cured me used to be part of that practice. So, I went there until he left.

There is nobody at NIHA that I would recommend for lyme treatment--nobody.

I will send you the name of a doctor right outside of D.C. that I recommend to everyone in the area. He is good. She will be in good hands. You won't have to worry.

I will send you at least 8 patient reports on this doctor also, plus his writings, so you will have plenty of info on him to read.

Welcome to LymeNet! Good for you for asking about lyme doctors here. We will help you all we can.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for MD.

Your wife needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. She needs to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/DCLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
www.natcaplyme.org

http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/DistrictOfColombia/

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
