I live close to Princeton, Trenton in central NJ. Happy to drive a reasonable distance, I understand they will not accept insurance. I've got 7 positive bands and need relief ASAP. Any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, many doctors treat lyme disease, but there are very few really good lyme doctors who treat properly and know enough to cure a person.

I do NOT recommend the NJ lyme doctors or the Philly or NYC ones. Connecticut has one good lyme doc that I know of.

I am in Maryland and I recommend a doctor in Maryland, right outside of D.C. You would only have to go to him in person once every 3 months. The other months, he will have phone or Skype appointments with the patient. (Good lyme doctors see/talk to their patients once per month.)

It is not uncommon at all for a lyme patient to have to go out of state for good care. Many have to fly to their lyme doctor.

So, if you want the name of the doc I recommend, let me know and I will send it.

His prices are reasonable and you can get in right away at this time. (Many lyme specialists have months long waits.)

You can also contact the lyme support groups in your state and adjoining states. See Support Groups on the left side of the page.

Get an awful lot of input on a doctor before you lay out the big bucks. I have many terrible reports on some of the lyme docs in NJ. So, I really suggest you be willing to travel further.

Welcome to LymeNet! We will help you here all we can.

Dear TF,

Thank you so much for your response. I would love the name of the LLMD you know in MD. BTW, are you familiar with Dr.B in PA? Any feedback?

Thanks again!

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for CT & MD.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

LLMDs are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NewJerseyLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources (including Support Groups info):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
