Hi,

I posted here 7 years ago, Lyme is back (and maybe coinfections but not sure about that yet...). My current doc is integrative but has really moved away from antibiotic treatment. I need a fresh start. Preferably someone that takes insurance, but I guess that's not a deal-breaker. Thank you in advance!

Leigh

Welcome back to Lymenet! PM sent for MD.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MarylandLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
http://whatislyme.com/websites-and-support-groups-by-state/

http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/Maryland/

Read the books written by the top LLMD, Dr. H, titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?" and his new one, "How Can I Get Better?". They are an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

View "Under Our Skin" for free on http://www.veoh.com/m/watch.php?v=v21055812yWtmpgB8

Btw- please don't forget to break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme.

To do this click the pencil/paper icon, make your changes, then click "Edit Post". Thanks.

Do you want someone who follows the Burrascano protocol? Meaning high-dose combinations of antibiotics, treating with the meds Burrascano says are effective, etc.?

Hi TF,

Thanks for your message. I don't know!! I don't know what's best for me. I made an appointment with Dr. J. in MD for next week...but I thought he wasn't even practicing anymore, so I'm confused about that.

I also called Dr. S. in MD...left a message there, not sure he's still practicing either??

Right now I'm on oral Doxy from my integrative GP - it's been 2.5 weeks and I've had 2 herxes. I've read mixed reviews on whether it crosses the BBB and will hit neuro Lyme/Bart. If I thought that's all I needed, I'd just stay on it.

I hate the idea of going back on IV abx (been down that road several times before), but if that's what I need, I guess I'll have to do it. I'm really at a loss.

That's not a great answer to your question, sorry. I'm not hung up on the Burrascano protocol specifically, but I'm obviously not opposed to it in any way. What I want is to work with someone with a high success rate of treating patients.

Thank you for taking the time to write!

I sent you a private message with my recommendation.

Since you got rid of lyme once before, you will be able to get rid of it again now. I doubt you will need IV this time.

You will be in good hands with the doc I recommend. And, you will like him. He will explain about why he likes doxy and everything else you like. And, he is good at diagnosing the coinfections.

Stick around and let us help you! And, let us know how it goes!

Hey Leigh,

Sorry to hear you are having problems again. Hope you are feeling better soon.

If you go to www.MarylandLyme.org and look at the menu to your left you will see "DOCTOR REFERRALS".

Click there to find the names and contact information for health care professionals treating Lyme & TBD's in your state (or any state).

There is also a page with support group information, one for alternative medical professionals, educational conferences across the country, labs and their contact information, one for mental health providers, MTHFR and Morgellons providers.

There is also a list of TBD with how to diagnose (testing), a list of symptoms for each disease and treatment info with links to the treatment guidelines.

Hope that helps in your recovery process! Good luck!
