My daughter is working at a camp in Maine this summer. She is experiencing jaw soreness and I am trying to find a doctor to rule out or confirm lyme.

Your daughter needs to be evaluated and treated, if needed, by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. She needs to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in to sooner by doing this.

Summer Camp! Love it!

Sorry she is having the jaw problems. Guess you know by now TMJ is associated with Lyme disease. It was one of my first diagnosis's and it was wicked.

In our area people were being misdiagnosed with "lock jaw" at hospitals because it got so bad.

For recent tick bites and early symptoms, there is also www.TreatTheBite.com

You can print out a one page document with tick bite treatment protocols (one for adults, one for children) and take them to the local doctors with you.
