Any direction appreciated. Family member found dog tick on them Thursday. They had been sitting on it in the car. Unclear if bit. She rubbed her backside bc she felt something and a big tick fell off. Impression/indent left at first bc of sitting on it. Help!

Welcome to Lymenet anncavan

Can you take a picture of skin mark?
Can you find the tick and take a picture of it.
If not, that’s ok. Remember to always document everything.

TREAT THE BITE
https://sites.google.com/site/getitrighttreatthebite/

28 days of Doxycycline or Amoxicillin for adults.
28 days of Amoxicillin for children according to weight.

Take the Lyme symptom questionnaire;

Please make appointment with primary doctor or urgent care center.
Print out the TREAT THE BITE page.
Start treatment ASAP.

I do not know of any LLMD’s in Iowa. I’m sorry.

You can request a LLMD through Global Lyme Alliance here;
https://www.globallymealliance.org/lyme-patient-support/find-medical-professional/

You can request a LLMD through ILADS here;
International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society
https://www.ilads.org/patient-care/provider-search/

These are simple e-mail formats that you fill out and they will respond with LLMD’s that are closest to you.

Let us know how you make out.
Wishing you and family member the best.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for IA.

Your family member needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

LLMDs are far and few between, unfortunately. He/she needs to go where they are. At least half of all Lyme patients go out-of-state for proper treatment.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

Contact the IA Lyme Support Groups. Maybe they can help - they would know better about IA.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
http://whatislyme.com/lyme-in-iowa/

http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/Iowa/

When calling for an appointment, have your family member ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Have them read the books written by the top LLMD, Dr.H, titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?" and "How Can I Get Better?". They are an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at the local library or buy them used online.
