i wouldn't post this on a lyme forum but you all are talking about all kinds of critters and i need to get this thing to hang out somewhere else. i know i'm gonna put the dog out at the wrong time and will have to go buy a ton of tomato juice.

how can i "repel" him???

Bounce fabric sheets all around seem to be keeping the mice away. You can give it a try.

Well let's see. I would say a 17 cal. rifle at about 200 yards. No smell no mess, and best of all no skunk. Be very careful around a skunk that shows no fear. That is avery good sign it has rabbies. They will attack.
Be as well as you can be

I learned some things from those links,,,VERY good info there.

When I had skunks coming up to the house I lived in a very rural area. MY experience with shooting skunks is they still stink. Shooting in between houses is NOT an option.

I think the pepper or moth ball ideas the best.

As well as removing ALL food sources. Mine were coming up at night and eating left over dog food.

If they are eating grubs the area will look like it has been bull dozed.

The trapping idea is NOT for the faint of heart. Harder to get them taken away and let go than it talks about. (without needing tomato juice yourself)

You can cover the trap and help,,but they still stink and spray since its there defense.

I am thinking the coke/flybait would work as a poison.

All depends on what avenues you WANT to take!! Rabid skunks are more common than not,be careful!!

Can you get a Wildlife and Fisheries person to come trap

The skunk and safetly remove him to another area.

I try to not kill anything I don't have to.

Moth balls are great to keep things away, but they poison the environment.

When you poison an animal you also take the risk that something

Else may eat it and die from the poisoning.

Plus you can't control when and where they die.

We call Wildlife and Fisheries in our area to deal with

Potentially dangerous or harmful animals.

Hugs,

Geneal

Also beware if the skunk is coming to the house during the day .. another sign it could be rabid.

well-thank you all. maddog that sounds like it might be the easiest and safest for all. this skunk is probably healthy-he is acting pretty normal-but has decided to hang out under my porch where my schnauzer likes to go to dig...and the dog and i got sprayed once and i don't want to go thru that again. me and two shaunzers in a tub of tomato juice. missed work.

i'm real careful about food this time of year...the bears are waking up.

and i know about rabies. i reported a fox running down the road in the daylight to the cops cuz i didn't have a wildlife number and there were kids playing in yards...but they didn't think it was a problem. i sure did. a few yrs ago a teacher got attaced by a rabid raccoon walking into work

so thanks...i'll go find that cologne...and if it doesn't work i'll make alist...i', not gonna shoot or poison it.

oh---if deer are a problem hang dial soap around the perimeter and they stay away!
